I had my arm around Demi as she sat on the exam table, while we waited for this doctor to tell us the results of the pregnancy test they ran. I heard Demi suck in her breath & knew she was holding it. I wished the doctor had an expression I could read, but she kept her face stoic at first. Then she relaxed & her lips curved up in a little smile. "It's positive. You're definitely pregnant."

Demi let out her breath in a giddy laugh then grinned up at me. I pulled her to me, smiling proudly as I kissed her head. "What a relief. Now, did the pill harm the baby?" Demi asked in an excited breath.

"No, the pill shouldn't affect the baby at all. The nurse will be bringing in the ultrasound machine in a moment so we can see if there is a heartbeat yet. According to the questions you answered, your due date should be November 20." Dr. Sands said with a smile. Demi & I exchanged happy glances as Dr. Sands put some information into her computer. The door opened a few minutes later & the nurse came in with the machine.

Demi laid back on the table & I held her hand as Dr. Sands got everything ready. She put the doppler wand inside Demi & minutes later we were watching something come up on the screen. Dr. Sands pointed to the spot that was supposedly our baby & I had to squint before I saw anything that even resembled something. Then Dr. Sands let out a noise that sounded like an excited gush of air. "Do you see the faint flicker right here?" She asked, putting her finger on the screen. I nodded, staring at that flicker. "That's the heartbeat."

I heard a tiny gasp come from Demi & when I looked down at her, I saw a shine in her eyes so I knew she was getting emotional. I kissed her head, then looked back at the screen. My eyes were glued on the flicker, knowing that was my baby's heart beating. It was becoming a reality, for sure. I watched that flicker for as long as I could, only looking away when Dr. Sands finished up. Once she dismissed us, Demi & I headed out to the waiting room, where Lyric was sitting in a big chair, reading a magazine. I took Demi's hand & looked down at her. "We gonna tell her now?"

"Let's tell her while we're eating lunch." Demi said, smiling as she watched Lyric. Suddenly, her smile disappeared. "No. Let's wait until we get home. I don't want her to be upset all day if she's gonna be upset."

"She said she was fine with it."

"But she may have just said that to get us back together." Demi shrugged then started walking toward Lyric. "Okay, sweetie. I'm all finished. We can go grab lunch then head to the ranch."

Lyric got up & we all walked out to the car. "Did you tell the doctor you wanted to have a baby?" Lyric asked when we got to the car.

Demi & I exchanged a look over the car as I unlocked it. "I talked to her about that, yes." Demi answered.

We all got in the car & I started it then buckled my belt. "Did they say it would be soon?" Lyric asked as she looked out the window.

"It can happen at any time. Now where do you want to go for lunch?" Demi asked, looking over her shoulder at Lyric in the backseat.

"I don't care." Lyric answered.

I looked at Lyric in the rearview mirror. "What's wrong, Angel?" I asked her.

"Nothing." She answered, then saw me watching her, so she forced a smile before looking back out the window.

I drove us to a restaurant Demi suggested & as we drove the three of us sang along to the radio, one of our favorite things to do. During lunch, Lyric seemed better, but it still worried me that she seemed upset earlier. I couldn't help but wonder if she wasn't really okay with having a sibling. I was getting nervous about telling her that Demi was pregnant, but I knew we couldn't keep it from her for long. I decided to bring up the subject, without telling her our news. "So, Lyric, what's the one thing you're most looking forward to when you become a big sister?" I asked, before taking a bite of my sandwich. Demi & Lyric were sitting beside each other as I sat across from them. Funny enough, this is usually how we sat at tables while dining out. I don't even know why, but I always sat across from them instead of beside one of them. Maybe it was because I loved not having to make much of an effort to look at the two most important people in my life. I loved looking at them since they were my entire world. Their smiles made my heart flutter & their laughs made my soul feel alive. Looking at them as they sat across from me, reminded me of how incredibly blessed I was.
