Dad & I were playing in the pool & I beat him in two games of volleyball. He said he was proud since he actually didn't let me win. After the second game, Dad said, "We should go eat. Wonder if your mom is done with her snack. She's been gone awhile."
"I am hungry so we should get out & eat something." I said as I started swimming toward the edge of the pool, Dad following me.
Dad sat on a chair as I dried off & I tossed Dad a towel so he could do the same, then we went inside. Dad seemed surprised that Mom wasn't in the kitchen, so he called out her name a few times. I shrugged my shoulders as I opened the fridge. "Maybe she went upstairs to get dressed." I offered & Dad seemed to give what I said, some thought. He disappeared from the kitchen, then I heard him yelling her name from the front of the house. I heard his footsteps on the stairs, then I heard nothing for a few minutes, so I sat down to eat the sandwich I put together.
I was only a few bites into my sandwich when I heard Dad's steps coming down our staircase, then I didn't hear any steps coming toward the kitchen. That was peculiar. I took a bite of my sandwich, then heard the front door open, then slam shut. I wondered why Dad was going outside, so I put my sandwich down then ran to the foyer. I knelt on the window seat by the front door so I could look outside.
I saw Dad, wearing a shirt now, walking toward Mom & his walk looked angry. Mom was at the gate & she was talking to a man that I recognized. It took me a moment to remember where I remembered him from, but then it came to me & I wondered what he was doing in front of my house.
On Sunday, when we went out to dinner after our day at the zoo, I had excused myself to go to the bathroom & had to wait in a line. The men's bathroom had some plumbing issues, so the women's bathroom was being used by both guys & girls & one at a time for obvious reasons. A man was standing in line behind me & it was the same man I saw talking to my mom, right now.
"You're the girl from the news, aren't you?" This man had asked as we stood against the wall. I glanced at him & nodded, politely. "Glad you got home safe. Your parents are Demi Lovato & Nick Jonas, right?" He asked, in a low voice & I nodded again. "Pretty incredible story how they found you. How they got you back." He was shaking his head as he looked at the ground. "I was just reading about it this morning. One of the magazines had you guys on the cover." He said, looking at me & I gave him a courteous smile. "You sure are lucky to have them as your parents."
