Chapter 8

Ezibel's P.O.V.

"Hey Hanley."  I could feel blood rushing to my cheeks.  Ever since I first saw Hanley I felt something between us.  Something that I just couldn't deny.  I caught him glancing at me several times when I was around him also, so maybe he feels the same?  That's not what I should be worrying about though.

"Ezibel."  Hanley said monotone.  He was sitting on a rock on the outskirts of the castle staring at me with his lizard eyes.  They kind of scared me, making me think of him as an overgrown lizard, his hair didn't help the situation, but I liked it.  It was different and it didn't look like it had been dyed at all.  Just natural and crazy.  I noticed his pupils would move sometimes though.  His body would tense up a lot when they thinned almost to complete nothing so that his eye was just one large pool of green.  When they were larger though he was completely normal.  Right now they were slowly thinning and I could see his agitation and hear it in his voice.

"I'll leave you two alone then."  Lillian patted me on the back and started walking away.  I looked over my shoulder watching her walk away from the thick woods we were in.  I don't know if that's a good or bad thing considering his pupils.  His mood could snap at any second.

"You want something?"    Hanley asked.  I faced him looking into his eyes, watching them closely.  I had to make this quick although leaving him was the last thing I wanted to do.  I smiled trying to ease it a little bit.  Hanley's eyes flickered.

"You're different than your sister.  You're shy, gentle, and closed.  You need to open yourself up to Latella if you want to understand it."  His eyes were growing larger now, his moods softening.

"How?"  I paused looking down at my hands.  "I'm so lost.  I don't know what to think of anybody."  Or your eyes I thought secretly to myself.  This was Latella things were strange.

"Accept that you're different.  That this is where you belong.  You have to face Latella.  You have to want to live here."

I gulped unsure.  I had grown up on Earth where all of this was just fantasy, but what if it wasn't fantasy.  This is where I would live for the rest of my life.  This was my home, I belonged.  I was accepted here.  Even if things were a little weird, like weird monsters that made the whole ground shake and a lizard person named Hanley that's eyes depended on his mood.

"Good."  Hanley said.  I snapped my eyes open not realizing I had closed them.  Hanley was looking right at me.  My heartbeat picked up and I started to sweat more.

"Now what?"  Hanley pried looking at me with open interest.

"We get help.  The creatures here aren't bad, just fighting for survival.  They'll fight with us to protect Latella."  He nodded touching my already clammy hand gently.  It was only a guess, but I was hoping that it would work.

"You're very smart."  He said tapping my forhead.  My heart was beating so fast I put my hands over my chest to make sure it wasn't bursting through.

"You're smarter."  I said smiling.  Things were starting to seem easier to me now.  Like the fog had cleared from my head.

"Colton!  Where the hell did you go."  Evangeline screamed busting through the woods.  She stopped and looked at us with a glare on her face.  I quickly jumped backwards blood rushing to my cheeks.

"H..hi Evangeline."  I stuttered.

She nodded as if saying hi back.

"Colton's that way."  Hanley said pointing.

"I know."  Evangeline said running off again avoiding obstacles easily..  I watched as she ran off still in her all black outfit.  I smiled knowing who she was to me, and glad for that.  I really admired the person she was, how strong she was.

"Let's follow her and maybe we can run into some beasts."  I said starting off behind my other half.  Hanley was right, we really were different.  Evangeline was brave and strong, while I was shy and weak.  I looked beside me at Hanley running next to me.  Maybe being me wasn't so bad.  I mean I get to run along Lizard boy while Evangeline is running after Colton.

Lillian's P.O.V

"Lillian you'll have to work in the medical center during the war."  I nodded.  I may not be the strongest link, but I knew better than to doubt myself.  I was meant to help, that was my purpose, for any situation.  My personality was based around my power and my power around my power.  It fit me well and I did well with it.  In the woods I had healed Colton a lot.  We were young so we didn't know a lot about the beasts then, we would get hurt and I would use different methods and techniques to heal.  Colton wouldn't let me heal him completely, he wanted each mark to stay on his body.  He doesn't know but one night I caught him muttering why.  It was two years ago.

'I slumped against a rubbing my forhead from all the reading I had done.  Every piece I read didn't seem to have the information that I needed though.  This was Evangeline though, I needed to find her.  If everything was okay with her she would've been back by now.  She would have been back a while ago.  I knew she was still alive, my truthseeking told me that,  even though I still wasn't really good at it.  I rested my head in my forhead feeling completely alone.

"Evangeline where are you."  I heard the whisper in the darkness and turned to the side around the tree to see Colton staring up at the sky.  I always knew Colton had feelings for her.  Neither of us would ever give up, never stop trying for her.

Colton turned around and I quickly hid behind the tree again.  I peeked around the tree again to see him touching his lip gently.  "It's my fault."  He dropped his hand and started walking and once again I hid behind the tree not wanting for him to know I was there.  Colton was a very private person the only person he only shared his thoughts with was Evangeline.  All of a sudden he was there.  He stopped, he was standing right next to me looking forward his hand right infront of my face.  On his hand was blood, the hand that he had touched his lip with.  I held my breath staying as still as possible and then he continued walking off into the woods.'

He leaves his battle wounds because he felt it was his fault that she was gone.  That having them was his punishment.

"You'll do great."  My father said wrapping me in a hug bringing me out of my thoughts.  I certainly missed my loving family.  I just wish this war didn't have to come so I could be with them.

"Do you guys think you can talk to the king and queen about something?"  I asked as my parents continued scribbling down stuff on a clipboard about positions.  We were still at the old castle, and the king and queen announced what was to come.  They had appointed my parents to decide where people would be placed based on their strength and power.

"What is that?"  My mother asked shaking her head no.  I could tell she was truthseeking in her head.

"I think we should have a ball."  Both my parents' eyes snapped from the clipboard looking at me.  "We could have it here, in the old castle, and I could plan everything out."

"We're going to war, not prom."  My mother said looking down at the clipboard.  My father nudged her and she looked back at me.  I was daddies' little girl.

"It willh help relieve the stress and we are going to loose some people in this war.  What not a better way to have happy moments that may be people's last.  The kids can't do battle, and the trainers will be busy getting ready.  We can take care of everything."  My father looked at my mother.  They knew how hard it was to lose somebody without a goodbye.

"Okay we'll talk to the king and queen on one condition."

"What's that?"  I asked.

"You never run away on us again."  I nodded hugging both of my parents.
