I knock on the door slowly
I see some lights flick on inside the house. I breathe in & out slow breathes .
The door opens and I come face to face with my worst fear
" hello Mother"
My mother just stands there in shock tears fill the brims of her eyes she covers her mouth.
" Meredith who's at the door " says my dad walking up behind her
He spots me
" Senjai? Baby girl is is it you?" He asks
" yes dad it's me" I say smiling weakly
My dad steps onto the porch and embraces me into a bear tight hug.
How I missed my dads hug.
After a few minutes he lets go . My mother steps out and looks at me with tears down her face she puts her hand under the left side of my face and I lean into it .
She pulls me into a hug. As we stand in the embrace I realize how much I missed my parents and their love and their comforting wisdom.
We let go
" come come in" she says taking a hold of my hand and leading me inside
I walk inside and look around the house
I smile when I see pictures of me when I was younger hanging on the wall . I smile and remember the good times.
I sit down on a love seat
" are you hungry do you want something to eat?"
" no mam"
" I'll make you a plate " she says smiling
One thing I love about my mom is when your in her house your always hungry no matter what she'll fix you a plate even if you said you didn't want anything.
My dad comes and sit in the recliner and stares at me
The thing with my dad is you can tell what he's thinking without saying a word to anyone
" I know dad" I sigh
My mother Comes back into the living room with a plate of Mac n cheese Collard greens fried chicken and a glass of milk .
" so what happened baby girl what really happened?" She ask
