It sounded stupid: ending a relationship over not coming out, but Dan wanted to be able to hold his boyfriend's hand in public and do other mainstream things couples did. Phil only wanted the best for Dan, he didn't want Dan to feel like he was trapped and obligated to be with him - so he ended it.
The break up ruined both boys. Neither of them had been so emotionally broken for years and the worse part is, they didn't have each other.
They made a pact.
"I still love you, you know."
"I know, Phil. I love you too."
"I don't want this to ruin us."
"Me neither. We're better together."
"Maybe in the future...we'll uh be ready."
"Maybe you're right."
