It wasn't a good thing to wake up in a place you don't know. I didn't even have Jack or Nil with me. Sitting up, I looked around the room in a sleepy way and found myself face to face with a giant panther. It's black eyes glittered calmly at me and I wanted vaguely to pet it. Reaching out, I put my hand on its head and smiled. It's fur was soft and silky to touch and I leaned over to hug it.
"I love cats," I sighed wrapping my arms around it and it leaned into me.
"My name's Montgomery," It whispered softly in my ear and I nodded not thinking too much about it. The named kept tickling my brain though until I finally gave in to the nagging in the back of my mind. Beyond the remaining vapors of the drug I found the answer to my question. It hit me like a bucket of ice and I threw myself away from the giant cat landing squarely on the bed that I had slept in. Sitting up quickly, I stared at the cat and frowned.
"You're supposed to be dead!" I exclaimed and pointed at him like an idiot.
"Who told you that?" he growled waving his tail. "You know pointing is rude." Realizing that I really was still pointing, I quickly put my arm down and glared at him instead.
"You ruined Jack's life!" I accused angrily and the panther started wheezing. It was only after Montgomery started coughing that I found out that he was laughing.
"Ruined...I saved that kid's life! Then those idiotic Jokers started getting in the way and now I'm like this and Victory's got that...well...queen for a dove," he sighed ending his retort and I shook my head.
"Not anymore. I' m his dove," I corrected and those huge black eyes stared at me for a long moment.
"You're serious," He said quietly and I nodded.
"I don't know what happened between them besides Shelia never making the decision," I shrugged and he nodded thoughtfully.
"She didn't like making those kinds of choices. It was a giant crush to her ego when Victory showed up I guess. She didn't want the extra baggage, I suppose. She probably didn't make the choice because of that," he informed me and I crossed my arms angrily. She was always messing with him.
"Why should I trust you?" I spat at him, looking for a target.
"Because I'm all you've got. Plus, if I wanted to kill you I would've done it already," the cat shrugged and I rubbed my nose. He was right.
"So how do we get out of here?" I asked quietly and he laid down unhappily.
"We can't. I've tried to get out of here hundreds of times. I'm just not able to leave," he puffed sadly and I jumped off the bed. The wood floor was cold beneath my feet and I could see why I wouldn't want to look beyond the bed curtain. The entire room was extremely disturbing. Spider webs hung off the wall in groups and torches were on every wall. The light wasn't even coming from them but from this eerie glow that was in the center of the ceiling. The walls themselves were black with bright red splotches that looked awkwardly like blood...that and the random torture device in the corner and I wanted to get out of there.
"What exactly is this room?" I questioned hiding behind the bed curtain to look at the panther again and he blinked up at me.
"It's one of the spades' rooms. I think it might be the King of Spades but I'm not sure. He usually enjoys this type of thing..." His words drifted off with a kind of echoing that I didn't like in the least.
"And uh...does he know I'm in here?" I asked and he shook his head.
"No. The worst thing that could happen is that he might think that you're a present from Zekan and you'll end up dying from torture wounds," he answered lazily and I gapped at him.
