I remember those days before everything changed. Everything was normal. I went to school, came home did my homework, spent hours on the phone to my best friend ... I had no idea what was going on out there, beyond the human world.

The day it all started was December 14th 2010. I was walking home from school with my best friend Shane. He had green eyes and wild black hair. He was quite well built and measured nearly six feet tall. He was what most girls would call quite good-looking I suppose. We had known each other since the day we were born, which was sixteen years ago, and turns out to be the same day. Creepy right?

Anyway, we were walking along an empty street which was dark because of the fact it was 6 o'clock on a freezing winter evening, when I thought I saw a shadow speed around the corner in the alley to our right.

"Um...Shane I thought I saw something go over there."

"Really? Don't be silly, no one goes down there, it leads to a dead end. All the houses that used to be down that street have been knocked down" he explained " no one lives there anymore, why would they want to go there?"

"I know what I saw, Shane. And I know it's wierd but I saw it"

"I'm kinda in a hurry here, I have an English project for tomorrow on Great Expectations." he said "... and i haven't started yet." he admitted.

That was typical Shane for you. I'll do it later was his motto. Somehow he still always managed to get it done in time. And get pretty good marks on it aswell. He must have some kind of special powers or something.

"You go ahead. I'll follow you in a minute" he gave me a look so i added "I'll be careful, I promise."

"Ok, but I'm telling you: there's nothing down there."
