Cells
Plant and Animal
Nucleus-controls activities of cell and contains DNA.
Cytoplasm-where chemical reactions take place.
Cell membrane- hold cell together also controls what goes in and out of cell.
Mitochondria- allows reaction for respiration to occur. Creates energy for cell.Plant cells only
Cell wall- made of cellulose and provides support for cell.
Vacuole- filled with cell sap which is a weak solution of sugar and salts. Also keeps cell rigid.
Chloroplasts- contains chlorophyll which allows photosynthesis to happen.Bacterial cells
Chromosomal DNA- long curly string that floats around since there's no nucleus. It controls the cell and cell replication.
Plasmids- small loops of DNA. These are in charge of drug resistance and can be passed to other cells.
Flagellum- tail like structure that rotates to allow the cell movement.Microscopes
Light microscopes allow you to see mitochondria nucleus and many other parts of a cell using light.
However electron microscopes allow you to see mitochondria nucleus and even plasmids in much more detail. Electron microscopes allow better magnification, resolution and image. However it is more expensive and much bigger.
Magnification= length of image / length of specimen.
