Choose wisely Alliana
I had never met a vampire with a special ability, although the phenomenon was not unheard of, it was incredibly rare. So rare in fact that the idea that Klaus could be gifted in such a way scared me, because individuals that were different in the kingdom of Illinkus had an incredibly short lifespan.
What had Klaus meant when he asked what I was in the car? The question arose in my mind before an involuntary shiver ran up my spine. Of course he hadn't meant that I could've been gifted as well?Maybe I was smart, but gifted?
I obviously couldn't read minds like he could, and if that was a requirement of gifted vampires he was straight out of luck.
Choose wisely Alliana Nixon
But what if he had meant it in that way?
That could explain the reason why I was the only one who witnessed his eyes change in the car—
My mind is completely set on dismissing the idea, but my heart had its own disagreements, and seems to love the idea of entertaining the possibility of my doom.
"Ms. Nixon." The king says and I snap out of the trance that I'm placed in."Please sit." He gestures towards the chair in front of his desk and I hesitantly nod and move to the seat.
Mephistor is sitting beside me, still watching with curious eyes.
"There are a few things that we need to go over or course, if you are to be prepared for the journey-"
Klaus' advice surely wouldn't be of any use to me if I was talked into attending this conference.
"One of the most important meetings is held for the royal family and their top advisors annually-"
"Top advisors?"
"Ms. Nixon, you'd do well to stop cutting me off when I'm speaking to you." The Kings tone is annoyed.
"Yes, my king." I immediately lower my head in submission and allow him to continue talking. Only its not him that speaks now, but his son from beside me.
"I did." My eyes meet Mephistor's and I'm suddenly entranced.
"Why?"
"You question your prince?"
"Father please."Mephistor holds his hand up and his father merely rolls his eyes and begins to write another notice. He turns back towards me and offers a small smile."Alliana you're perfectly qualified. I don't see why you feel the need to question yourself."
"I've been doing it a lot lately." I say and look down into my lap."Wouldn't you want someone more experienced to accompany you?"
"You mean some old immortal constantly on my back about how to act like a proper king? Not really."His laugh vibrates the room. "I'd much rather be with someone my own age, and you also just happen to be the most qualified for the job."
I'm caught of guard by his string of words, I knew that being an intellectual I was of course qualified for the position of handling international affairs, however I never imagined that I would be given one of the highest honors possible to a royal official this soon.
"I know you must be a little taken aback by this new environment and field of work, but I promise you the journey and conferences will go by smoothly."
