I awaken in a cold sweat. My eyes quickly scan the area around me to check for any abnormalities. All that I find is a sleeping man in the back seat of the car and a confused Klaus with his head cocked to the side looking at me. The moon is shining brightly in the sky and it's beams cast themselves around the hollows of his face. He looks truly beautiful.
"What were you dreaming about?" He whispers, shaking me from my trance."You were shaking."
I blink a few times in attempt to regain composure. My hands have a slight tingling sensation. I flip them over to find that they are both red.
Klaus's eyes drift to them as well.
"It was him." He lifts his head to meet my eyes."Wasn't it?"His own come alive with an unmistakable anger.
I nod slowly.
"Are you okay?"
"Yes." I say breathlessly. "At least, I think I am."
"That prick." Klaus mutters."What did he want?"
"To discover our location."
"And did he?"
"No." I say."He begged me with every fiber in his being, but, he knows nothing of where we are." I remember being trapped in my own mind with Mephistor in the place that he contained us. The way I felt when he touched me, the way my hands trembled with power, the way his eyes-
"Oh my god." I nearly gasp.
"What?" Klaus asks.
"Mephistor-" I pause."There's something wrong with him. His eyes-they glowed red and black veins protruded from underneath them. He cried out for me before he turned into- something else- something demonic-"
Klaus takes a moment to process the information that I have just said to him.
"Fascinating." His head tilts once again."That's not supposed to happen." I nearly fume at the fact that Klaus can find humor in a serious situation.
"It was so strange." I shake my head."It was like I was still talking to him, but, a different person was responding. It was like he was possessed-"
"And you're not sure by what?"
"No. I have no clue."
"Interesting." His eyes glint with mischief. "What triggered this response from him?"
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"His eyes weren't red until you triggered him. From that information I can only assume-"
"That I said something to set him off?" He nods and I nearly laugh at the fact that I seem to be acting more and more like him every second that we spend together. I take a second to ponder the idea. "He demanded that I tell him where I was- he wasn't angry until-"
"Until what?" Klaus asks, leaning forward.
"Until I told him that I would never be with him." I raise an eyebrow. "His demeanor changed after I denied him as my king- but, I don't believe that the man who was threatening me so intensely was Mephistor. I feel like whatever made him act the way he did is controlling him. He wasn't the same man that I met a few days ago."
"How can you be sure that he wasn't putting on a front when you two first met?"
"I can't explain how I know." I say honestly."But it was like I felt him when we first met. I could feel the good inside of him but when his eyes changed, I could only sense an endless darkness."
