Love isn't necessarily just what you feel
towards your significant other.
The day I figured that out
was the same day I fell in love.
It was the day you told me
you didn't feel the same way.
That I didn't make your heart skip,
or your body tingle.
The day I fell in love
wasn't a dreamy one.
It was misty and dim,
a sense of dismay filled the skies.
The day I fell in love,
I felt like suffocating.
My chest throbbing,
my throat aching,
and my bones collapsing.
The day I fell in love,
I realized that:
I didn't need to be your muse,
I was my own artist.
I only needed myself to create me.
The day I fell in love,
I stood in front of the mirror
revering every little memory,
looking at me,
at the black hair you sometimes liked,
the lips you ocasionally loved,
the body you frequently embraced.
And so I loved my hair for its smell,
my lip for its smile,
and my body for its strength.
The day I fell in love,
was the day you broke my heart,
and I learnt to love it,
because I learnt that love requires bravery,
unity, trust and respect,
but all these things come along
just when you love.
