"The River of Sorrow"

The river takes my love away from me
It snatches my love; washes my heart out, away and away
I fall upon my knees
Don't take my love away, please
I weep inside my palm
Letting my tears drown me, the quaking never calms

River, oh, river why do you betray me?
Don't take my love from me lest my life's bound to tragedy
River, oh, river, my love is my sole happiness
Without my love, I am bound to eternal rest

I will swim into your current
After my love, I shall plunge into you, ignore your violence
Everything for my love, I will do
For without my love, there'll be naught but sorrow

Oh, river, tarry won't you?
I need my love, to my love I shall go
Oh, river, oh, river, my heart is breaking
You are not even stopping
Don't take my love from me
I can't bear it if my love is away

River, oh, river, I am out of breath
As I swim to catch my love, will this finally be my death?
Oh, river, my sky has turned dark
My love's hand reaches out for mine; my love says, hark!
Oh, river, oh river, I try to listen to my love but I'm drowning
My love's voice calling
Oh, river, as you whip me, my love is getting farther
Away from me, I am here, my love is there

I can't, I can't take it anymore, I am dying
My eyes, I am finally closing
I am dozing, the waves hurl me from rock to rock
The river continues to wash me out, far and beyond
Far, far away from my love
