I watched Ava as she stared hopelessly out of small airplane Window tapping her hand along to the beat of what sounds like the 1975 love me.

I honestly couldn't stop staring at her,
The way her blue eyes screwed shut and opened back up again, how her hair kept falling into her face the way she payed so much attention to the song she was listening to. I was staring that long I start pointing out all the small faded freckles that scattered across her face.
"Can I help you?" She turned to face me pulling her headphone out of her ears and pressing 'pause' on her phone,
I instantly felt my cheeks go red and I stuttered on my words
"Oh I erm I wasn't looking at you I was looking out the window.." I awkwardly smiled
"Oh well then do you wanna swap places?"
I didn't exactly wanna swap places as I absolutely hate flying and looking out the window .
"Erm sure"
Me and Ava awkwardly swapped places
And things fell quiet again,
I stared out the window, my stomach churning I squeezed my eyes shut and I squeezed my knees
"Whoa Brad are you okay??" Ava asked worryingly
"Y-yeah I-I'm-" I didn't finish my sentence instead I rushed out of my seat running for the toilet so I could puke..real attractive I know.

After I finished puking I splashed some water on my face and made my way back to my seat
"Are you alright??" Ava asked for the second time
I sat back down instantly pulling the blind down before facing Ava
"Yeah I'm good" I let out a breath
"Not a fan of flying I guess" she giggled
"Not really no" I stifled an awkward laugh
"Shouldn't you be used to this?"
"Exactly I should be used to it" I laughed
"Flying isn't something I enjoyed nor will I ever"
"Hmm it's okay it's not the worst, I'm sorry but the tubes in London are the worst!" She started explaining how one time she was on a tube going to visit some relatives in Exeter when she suddenly had a panic attack cause it was so crowed that she had to be rushed off.
This was probably the most conversation we've had in days and I missed it..a lot.
"You've never actually told me about you're family, I hope you don't mind me asking by the way.." I said to Ava
She shifted a bit closer to me and was telling me stories about her child hood friends to memories.
"My mum died of cancer when I was 8" she spoke shortly after she finished her story about her and her younger cousin Ellie got lost in the woods.
"I'm so sorry to hear that"
Ava's eyes where sparkling with tears but she did everything in her will to not cry
"What about your dad?"
She sighed
"My dad is living in Birmingham with his girlfriend Jane and their son Jacob" she rolled her eyes sitting back In her seat
Before I said anything else she continued to talk
"I mean my mum was dead 3 years and he had already moved onto Jane? Then 2 years later she was pregnant so dad moved us up to Birmingham cause that's where she's from then I lived with them up until I was 17 as soon as I turned 18 I moved to London hence why I'm here now" she took a breather and stared at me like she was trying to see if I was actually listening to her
"Do you keep in contact?"
"No! Jane always tried to replace my mum bossing me around all the time, getting involved in shit that had nothing to do with her I couldn't ask dad for money cause it was 'hers' she always told me to save my own money then I can do stuff with friends, she always made me call her mum when friends came round and one day I didn't and right in front of my friends she slapped me and shouted at me and what made it worst is dad was on the couch watching her"
I can just picture a young Ava still grieving her mums death and having someone else try replace her. It must not be easy.
"Anyways what about you?" She asked
"There's nothing interesting about my life"
She laughed
"You're in a band surely you've amazing stories to tell"
"There's a few" I shrugged
For the remainder of the flight me and Ava talked a lot and I felt like I really got to know her like I know everything there is to know about Ava Denver,
I feel like I know Ava more than anybody else and it's an
amazing feeling.
