Me and my Mom were in her room lounging, chilling, and watching movies. Right now we were watching Armageddon, I hate that movie especially when Bruce Willis dies at the end. It breaks my heart every time.

"Ma, I hate this movie and you know it" I said looking up at her from my laying position.

"But I love this movie. Can't you just deal with it for right now." She said giving me the puppy eyes. Nope it's not gonna work this time.

"Noooooo mama. Change this movie" I said. She huffed and grabbed the remote going to the movie channels.

"Oooooh go to Harlem Nights. That's my movie" I said pointing at the TV.

"Girl what you know about this movie" She said going to the movie.

"Girl this my favorite movie. I remember when you caught me and Paw Paw watching it when we went to visit a long time ago and almost had a heart attack. He was dying laughing." I said remembering the first time I watched Harlem Nights with my Grandpa.

"That is not funny. You were not old enough to watch that movie." She said shaking her head.

"Yeah well Paw Paw thought different." I said shaking my head and paying attention to the movie.

"Awww I missed one of my favorite parts." I said seeing them carry Vera out after Quick shot off her pinkie toe.

"When he shot off her toe" My Mom said laughing. I nodded my head. After that we kept watching the movie.

It came to the part when Tommy's brother and his gang went after Quick because they thought he had something to do with Tommy's death. Me and my Mom laughed because of the man who was shooting with the little gun and Tommy's brother was yelling at him and took his hat off and threw it at him.

"This movie is hilarious" I said.

"Yeah they don't make em' like this anymore" She said. I nodded at what she said and payed attention to the movie.

Moments like this are the moments I love with my Mom. We don't have people asking us a million and one questions and we're not asking each other a million and one questions. We just chillin and watching movies. I still haven't told my Mom about Chasen and the date and I really don't wan't to bring it up. It's Saturday morning and the date is later on tonight and I'm kind of nervous. I just don't want my insecurities to come out during this date and ruin everything.

"So I'm going out with Detroit ton-"

"Momma stop calling that man Detroit. His name is Detroy" I said rolling my eyes.

"I know my own boyfriend's name Angel I just like calling him Detroit cause its funny and cute"

"Momma it ain't nothing funny about calling a grown man Detroit"

"You know what damn it"

"Mommaaa just say Troy. We don't need to have an argument about this mans name." I said.

"Okay okay okay... I'm going out with Troy tonight. He said he wanted me to meet some important people. So I need you to help me pick out an outfit." She said. I sat up and looked at her like she was crazy.

"Are you serious?" I asked. I mean picking out your parents clothes isn't everything but to me it is. Picking out any kind of outfit makes me happy.

"Yeah. He said it's casual, sexy, and dressy attire"

"Okay so night club attire"

"A don't have me in there looking like somebodies hoochie mama cause I am not the one. I will not walk out this house dressed like a thot." She said.

"Mom have I ever let you walk out the house with just anything on. You know I got you boo." I said getting up and walking to her closet.

I started looking for something for her to wear. I picked out a sleeveless tribal printed bodycon dress, and jean vest, black cut out peeptoe platform heels, some black and gold stud earrings, a Michael Kors bar and arrow necklace, and a gold tone bracelet watch. I decided she should take her tan Michael Kors leather shopper bag, I'm gonna curl her hair, and I'm gonna give her a nude face. I got her whole look ready and I was excited about how it was going to look on her.

I walked out the closet and saw her talking and cheesing on the phone. She must be talking to Troy. I walked out of her room and to mines. Walking into my room I looked at my phone, I got a message from an unknown number.

Unknown Number: Hey Angel, it's your Dad.

I wasn't expecting that. He was actually the last person that came to mind when it came to unknown numbers. I'm just so caught off guard cause my whole life I haven't seen or talked to this man. This unknown man. To be honest I've seen my Moms current boyfriend more than I've seen my own father. And I've only seen Troy one time.

Me: Hey

Unknown: Hey, How are you doing?

Me: I'm doing good. Just chillin'

Unknown: Oh, that's good. You doing good in school?

Why do you need to know?

Me: I've always done good in school.

Unknown: Well that's good. Keep it up!

Me: I'll make sure I do good.

Should I just end this conversation now? Cause this is getting kind of awkward. Let's see what he says next.

Unknown: Well, my family and I is coming to your city next week and we're staying for a couple of days. I was wondering if you wanted to spend a little time together, maybe meet my family, you know...spend some quality bonding time together?

I don't know why, but when he said my family, my heart kind of ached. I know I shouldn't be hurt by that, but I am.

Me: Uh, sure. I don't really mind. I guess we can spend some time together.

Unknown: That's great. Well I gotta go, but I'll talk to you later. Can't wait to see you, I'm sure your all grown up and beautiful. Have a good day Angel.

I just didn't text back. I still can't believe he text me. I wonder why he wants to be in my life all of a sudden, when he didn't want to be in it in the first place. I always wanted to put my father on a high pedestal, but I just couldn't especially after what he did to me and my Mom.
