Stuck in between

Chapter 9

Julie's POV

11:25am

"Can we get some candy?" I ask Calum as I hold up a bag of candy.

"No, we need to get stuff for the party." He answers while putting five bags of chips in the cart.

"Well how about dip for the chips?"

"Obviously!" Calum says laughing.

I grab a packet of chip dips and put them in the cart.

"Cal I think we have way more food than we need for the New Years party." I say looking at two carts full of food and party supplies.

"True, let's just go."

We walk to the cashier and pay.

As we leave the grocery store, I get a call.

I check the caller ID and see that it's Luke.

"Yo." I say into the phone.

"Hey Juju." Luke says from the other end.

"Please don't call me that, I'm not ten anymore." I say chuckling.

"Sorry." He says.

"It's okay, but why'd you call me?" I ask helping Cal put the groceries in the trunk.

"Oh um I was just gonna ask if you were coming to the New Year's Eve party tonight."

"Obviously. I'm not spending New Years alone." I say.

"Who's on the phone?" Calum interrupts.

"Oh it's just Luke." I reply.

"Oh him." Calum says sarcastically.

"Anyways, so what are you doing?" I ask Luke.

"Nothing really just cleaning up for the party." He answers.

"Wow I can't believe that you actually clean." I chuckle.

"Well believe it because when we're married and live together I'm most likely going to be the one who's going to clean up our kids' mess."

I pause.

Did I hear clearly?

"What did you just say?" I ask.

"W-What, it was uh nothing." He stutters.

"I um gotta go, Cal is calling me." I say.

"Oh, alright." He quickly says.

"Bye." I say hanging up.

"What was that? Why'd you hang up so quick?" Calum asks me as he starts the car.

"Oh uh it was nothing. He just had to go." I lie.

We hear a knock on the front door.

"I'll get it." I tell Calum as I walk over to the door.

I open it to see Luke standing there.

"Hey Jules." He says with a smile.

"Sup breadstick." I say motioning him to come in.

He playfully rolls his eyes and chuckles.

"Why'd you knock?" Calum asks Luke as we enter the living room.

"I don't know, I just felt like being polite today." Luke replies.
