Chapter 10

Chapter 10:

My eyes wandered to behind him and there I saw it, the massive marble white water fountain.

Without thinking about it, I ran passed him and stroked the marble. The only fountain I've ever seen was down town and it was decaying with a barley flowing green water. It wasn't nearly as nice as this one.

"Oh my-" I started, as I touched the cold water with my fingers creating a ripple.

"There's no water filter so the water may be dirty." he told me. He sounded closer now, as if were were right behind me.

When I turn to see, he was closer than I expected, watching at my fingers.

"Its lovely," I said to him looking back down at the glistening water, it really was. Beautiful in comparison to the other fountain.

"It really is," he agreed, except when I looked back at him he was looking at me instead. My face grew warm again.

"Melisande," he said.

"Yes?" I asked.

"Oh, nothing I just really like that name," he smiled.

My face grew warmer, "th- thank you,"

"You're welcome,"

We were quiet for a moment, then he spoke again, "do you feel comfortable around me now?"

I hesitated, looking down at my hands, "I'm not really sure."

"Well in that case," he grabbed my hand from the water, "let me show you something."

He led me pass the fountain following the stone steps then stopped at a turn and kneeled to the dirt, looking at a certain section of white flowers I've never seen before but was instantly attracted to.

I believe they're more beautiful than roses, and they were both at full bloom.

"Moonflowers, the queen's favorite," he stated, then looked up at me, "look."

I knelt down beside him and touched the soft pedals, "they're beautiful."

"They are," he whispered, again he was looking at me, I could see out of the corner of my eye. Again, my face grew warm.

Suddenly, he leaned closer to me and he smiled his kind smile, then asked, "would you like to dance?"
