Treasure Chest

I looked your way
Every time I could
Averted my gaze
Whenever you noticed
Pretended to be busy
With some random thing
Although my mind was buzzing
And my heart racing
Your heart was a treasure chest
Whose key I couldn't find
A shy treasure hunter was I
For many were looking too
I tried on a day to day basis
Rolled my pencil off my desk
Or pretended to be hurt
One day we finally talked
It consisted of two words
I greeted you hello
But you were in a rush
And said goodbye instead
Who knew those were our last
For you were gone the next
I waited days on end
But you never did come back
I'll always remember you
The boy whose heart I couldn't find
