Firestar scented the the smell of milk mixed with the tang of blood. He felt a soft tongue rasp along his flank. He felt... different. He felt smaller, weaker. He tried to open his eyes, but he couldn't.
"What should we name this one?" he heard a familiar voice ask, though he couldn't pinpoint who the voice belonged to. "Firekit. In honor of my father." another familiar voice responded lovingly. "It's perfect." the first voice purred, nudging Firestar with what seemed to be a nose.
But, my name is Firestar! he shrieked silently. Isn't it? he asked himself after awhile. He'd forgotten who he was. He knew he was supposed to remember things, but all he knew was that he was now Firekit.
Firekit felt tiny bodies squirming around him. Who's that? he asked himself. He found himself being drawn to the sweet scent of the milk. He snuggled closer to a cat's- most likely his mother's- belly fur. The small kit started to suckle. Right now, the most important thing was that he got food. He would worry about the strange memories later.
