Chapter 6: B Team

That night I called Lindsey over, due to the fact Patrick said "I'm literally working late, I'll bring back Chinese." I turned to look out the window and watched it rain while Lindsey ate Cheezits on my pallet. "Would you stop looking out that window?" Lindsey's mouth was full of orange snack crackers; her favorite snack cracker. "He said he wouldn't do this. He said he'd quit," I mumbled. "You need to let him go. Ever since Whitney got preggers you've been on the edge of your seat with him." Lindsey was right. I've been looking out for him ever since Whitney got knocked up. "Can't help it," I mumbled. The door bell rang and I looked at the clock. Lindsey had gone to get the door. Eleven something. I slipped on my glasses and read the eleven-eleven as Patrick stumbled in and handed me a box of chicken fried rice and general chicken. "Thanks," I said. Patrick gave me a soft smile and knew I was hurt. "Lindsey, can I have a moment with Captain?" She nodded and said something sassy, then left, leaving me looking at Patrick. "And you excused her, why..?" I looked at him skeptically. "I'm sorry for the way I acted, Cap. You know how I am with alcohol." I nodded. Patrick held up his phone so I could take a picture with him. "I'll send it to Dad," he nodded. I did the same nod and sat there quietly. "He signed me up for an AA meeting.." Patrick blushed, embarrassed. "Really?" I don't know why I was enthused. I guess I assumed Patrick could change. "Yeah," then he smiled weakly, giving me a small, yet 3- second kiss on my temple. "I'm sorry.." Patrick was tearing up, but the tears began to go away as quickly as I saw them form. "It's alright," I said softly. Patrick smiled back, rubbing his eyes. "It's funny how perfect Dad is and all high in rewards, and we're just us.." I whispered. "Yeah, I guess we're the B Team." I chuckled softly, so happy to have an attempt at having my brother back.
