Yes; it literally was an alien. There he lay, curled up in his own body, a creature who resembled the monster in faery tales. 

His body, which was shaped like Patrick Star from Spongebob, in a greenish tint, displayed in a fright, as Max Peverel closed to this creature.

 He was in horror himself, but what could he, a man, do when he spots an alien?

Max soon touched the sea floor, the ocean floor, and neared towards the undivulged creature. No sooner was he just a feet away. 


Gathering some courage (which he could not, apparently), he touched the skin (if it was skin), the flesh of the beast. 

The brute shrugged a bit, and dread covered Max. He backed, but the animal shifted back to its normal position.

What is it, god? He asked himself. What is this creature, who seems to be dead, but isn't, as I have noticed by its shrug?
