Ok, let's start off with my opinion: BEING A DIRECTIONER DOES NOT COUNT AS BEING A FAN GIRL.
I mean, if you want to get technical, I guess it could be. But think about Harry Potter. You know how much work Jo had to do? ELEVEN editors turned down her work. While as One Direction, all they had to do was sing good.
My definition of fangirl is: a person who is active in the community of people who watch a fantastically made book/show/movie/game. I don't count boy bands as having a large fan base (but Panic! at the Disco counts, because there's only one singer, and their songs are awesomely random and don't really have to do with romance)
Also, if you say you like, say, Twenty One Pilots for example, I will ALWAYS ask what your favourite song of theirs is. If you answer a song that is on the radio, like Stressed Out is, you are not a true fan. That is because you can't like a band based off of just one song. What if you don't like the rest of the album, huh?
But any ways, this was just a subject that popped into my mind at school today. I thought that I might as well write about it.
