"Freak!" Finn Brady shoots a slimy spitball like a bullet out of the barrel of a gun straight into my red hair. With every ounce of will power I can muster I force my body to be completely still. My hands throb with the urge to fish out the slimy spitball, but I force them to keep still at my sides.

"Gross," Finn snarls from the desk next me, "you're just letting it sit there, you are such a freak." Finn gags. Finn Brady is a six foot menace, that has been my personal tormentor since third grade. Finn has a baby face, and bright blue eyes that stand out against his pink lips and short black hair.

"What's your problem, Finn?" Elijah growls, his hand gently plucking the spitball out of my red locks

"What's your problem, Finn?" Elijah growls, his hand gently plucking the spitball out of my red locks. Elijah glares at the dark haired guy on my left, his brown eyes so full of anger that it gives me chills. Elijah and Finn are friends, but from their pointed looks aimed at each other like guns, you wouldn't know they spoke to each other at all.

"Why are you suddenly hanging out with a freak?" Finn growls at Elijah. My stomach knots up nervously at the thick tension between the two, it's feels as if I'm just inches away from a buzzing electric fence.

"Why are you being such a dick?" Elijah fires back, flicking the wet wadded up ball back at Finn. Sitting at the edge of my seat I steel myself for if they two guys will lunge at each other like wild animals. They're glaring at each other like they've hated each other their whole lives.

Finn opens his mouth to slur an insult, but luckily the bell suddenly bursts and cuts him off. I tug on Elijah's sleeve, and give him a pleading look.

"But-" Elijah starts, but his words die off when our eyes lock.

"Fine." Elijah gives in, but only storms out of the classroom with one last glare at Finn. "I can't believe him!" Elijah bursts, his brown eyes so hot with rage they could melt metal.

"But..." I try, "but Finn is your friend." I state softly.

"That makes it worse. I expect my friends not to bully my other friends." Elijah grumbles angrily. Stopping short behind the short blonde a huge smile grows across my face. Finn and his spitball completely forgotten, my stomach starts to flutter as if it is a jar full of butterflies. Elijah furrows his brow at my smile.

"Why are you happy? You just got spitballed." Elijah questions, his face scrunching up in puzzlement.

"Because you called me your friend." I admit softly. Elijah tries to hide a growing grin behind his hand, but I catch it.

"Well, we are." Elijah mumbles, his anger vanishing. "I'm still mad at him." Elijah adds, trying to revive the dead fire that died in his eyes. Still grinning, I nod at him, going on with his act of being an angry tough guy trying to defend my honor.

Later
"Okay," Elijah laughs, "try not to think about falling." Elijah hands clutch my waist as I wobbly attempt to ride his skateboard. I give him a nervous glance, clinging to his toned arms for support.

"Keep pushing, Daisy." Elijah advises, his cool fingers tingling on my skin. Kicking off the ground with shaky legs, my hands tighten on Elijah.

"I'm.." I start, finding my voice, "I'm going to fall!" I gasp, swaying on his board.

"No, you're not. I got you, I won't let you fall." Elijah promises, his hands tightening on me. I grin down at the dirty blonde, but it disappears just as fast as it came at the sight of Finn walking on the other side of the street.

"Oh, how sickeningly cute." Finn gags, walking over much to my dismay. Detaching from Elijah I hop off the skateboard, and cross my arms over my chest. Taking a deep breath, I steel myself for Finn's oncoming crude remarks. I shut down, and steady myself. I turn off, I just turn off my emotions and my reactions.

"Ugh, Finn, not now." Elijah sighs, falling into step with me.

"Down boy." Finn jokes, earning a glare from Elijah "We use to walk home together everyday." Finn raises a brow at me, but I ignore him.

"Are you taking your new squeaky toy to the party tonight?" Finn asks. Party? Elijah didn't mention a party. Also, what's with all the dog jokes?

"... No, Finn." Elijah answers. I don't falter, struggling not to speed up.

"Oh, why not?" Finn presses. Gosh, can't Finn just stop? I already feel bad enough about myself, I don't need Finn making me feel worse.

"Finn!" Elijah hisses. Finn throws an arm around me, making me stumble to a halt.

"You know it's probably better you stay home, freak. It's a full moon tonight, and all the lunatics and monsters come out on full moons." Finn states, his arm tight on me.

"Get off her, Finn." Elijah growls, tugging Finn's arm off. Finn shakes off of Elijah, and aims a smirk at me.

"Stay home, weirdo."
