As December passes into January, Beth and Daryl continue their jobs, but now, everything seems sweeter. Chopping wood isn't tasking. Teaching and caring for the children isn't boring. It's not the same as before- even though the only thing that changed was Daryl asked Beth to be his wife.
Though anything could happen- as proven on several accounts- Beth still wants to wait for a spring wedding. True it would just be Father Gabriel blessing them, but she just wants warmish weather. And though Daryl internally groaned about the thought of waiting, he patiently accepts what Beth wants.
The cold itself has slight calmed itaelf, but the snow still falls and the walkers still lay completely dead. Holding Judith in her arms, Beth watches out her window as Daryl chops a log into small bits. The way his body forcefully pushes the axe through the hard oak, Beth feels a swell in her stomach and heat between her thighs. And when he looks up and catches her eyes, her butterflies turn explosive and her heart races faster.
"Judy, look. Do you see Daryl?" Huh? See, that's Daryl. He's your Daddy's best friend. He's my fiance. Do you know who I am? Huh? Can you say Beth? Beth?" The little girl smiles and hugs the woman. Beth just gives her a kiss on her forehead. She loves this little girl. It hurts her to think that having a baby is dangerous- even though she and Daryl both agreed that they would like to have kids. Thinking about it, they don't know when their last day on this Earth is- which once again ties into them almost dying several times.
"Hey..." Beth jumps as his voice pulls her from her thoughts. Looking outside, Daryl isn't there and it makes sense when two strong hands wrap around her waist and he kisses her neck. "Sorry, didn't mean ta scare ya."
"Haha it's okay. I guess I was just space rangin'. How's it going?"
"Ehh, ya know. I have a distraction in the window." She blushes madly and he just gazes at her with mysticism.
"What?" She blushes even more and his eyes lower to Judith and then back to her. "What?"
"Jus admirin' the veiw." He kisses Judith's head and then looks at Beth, who almost pouts from not being kissed. Leaning in, he kisses her also and Judith giggles.
"Da-da..." The giggly girl squeaks out and Beth and Daryl pull apart. Daryl is ashen and Beth is shocked but awed by the baby.
"Daryl- this is Daryl." Beth says and points to Daryl and Repeats it once more for the litte girl. "Dar-yl"
"Da-da!" The little girl claps and when Beth goes to look at Daryl, he's already out of the house.
This is not good.
Walking down the road, Daryl feels sick to his stomach. His sickness has no cure, but fresh air. He stomach turns and his chest pounds as he thinks about what's happened. He'll never live it down- especially with the circumstances that have already been laid out. How does he explain anything to Rick and everyone- let alone Beth. How his body aches. How his head turns to jelly. He has to confess to someone.
Gabriel.
Going to Gabriel's garage, he knocks on the door and finally Gabriel opens up.
"Oh, Daryl. I've never seen you here before- not by yerself...or willingly anyway. What can I do for you?"
"Can we talk? 'Lone for a second?" Daryl fidgets in his place Gabriel nods and allows Daryl to enter. Going into the Garage, they step into a self made confessional- two small refridgerator boxes taped together with a swinging piece to act as a window and two blankets as doors. Sitting down on hard stools- Daryl feels confined even more.
"What seems to be the issue?"
"I have to confess to something that happened about two years ago."
"Alright. Go ahead."
"Ya can't tell anyone!" Daryl warns and Gabriel chuckles.
"I'm a priest. I took an oath. I still stand by it. Now, what's the problem?"
Standing on the porch, Beth looks around the space in front of her house in hopes of spotting Daryl. He looked sick to his stomach.
Maybe he doesn't want kids. I mean, I understand he'd be upset for Rick's sake, but he wouldn't be that upset.
Shrugging her shoulders, she goes inside and hopes Daryl will at least come home feeling better.
"Oh my...and no one knows?" Gabriel asks concerned.
"Yeah. I'm screwed. I don't know what to do- or what to say. How do you even go about it?"
"Well Daryl, God would want you to be honest. You'll only feel guilty if you keep this inside and to yourself."
"Yeah...I just fear the outcome."
"I would if I was you." Gabriel says amd Daryl sits slumped in his seat feeling dooped.
I am fucked!
