Ten years later, I can answer every single one of those questions. North Carolina was suitable for me, but not forever. I stayed there for five years to finish up my bachelor degree in landscape architecture. Gage was in Australia and Japan. When we were both twenty-three, we tied the knot on January 5th—a beautiful winter wedding. We settled back in his home city, Eau Claire. A year later, we had our first child, Oliver. He is the spitting image of Gage. I received my master’s degree in landscape architecture when I was twenty-six. Also within that year, Charlotte was born. I felt like my life was complete. Gage was home, we had two great children, and I had a great job. Who knew the rollercoaster of life was just getting started.
