She had some pasta on her lips. I wiped it with my thumb and sighed.

"I tried to contact you as soon as I was emotionally stable. Your phone went straight to voicemail every time I tried to call you and it didn't seem like you heard my voice messages either. So I contacted Selina. She told me everything that had happened and I booked a ticket to Barcelona right away, but...I arrived too late. None of this would have happened if I didn't let you leave."

I cupped her face and leaned my forehead against hers. Though she didn't respond, it felt nice to be close to her. I pressed a kiss on her cheek and wrapped my arms around her fragile body.

"I promise you that I will protect you from now on. I will do anything in my power to help you get better," I whispered in her ear in the hope that she would hear me.

[ Mrs. Islas POV ]

Fleur was the only thing on our minds these days. My little girl didn't deserve this. She was such a soft soul and we blamed ourselves for letting her date that asshole of a guy. Every day was a nightmare. I felt like I had failed as a mother. My husband barely spoke to any of us these days. My sons were in their own world, trying to deal with all of this. Our family was broken and I couldn't stand it.

I made an appointment with her psychiatrist, because I needed to know what was going on with Fleur. I was sick and tired of the medical jargon they used to describe her mental condition. I had demanded him to explain everything in detail to me. I needed to understand what was going on with my baby girl, because only then I could figure out a way to help her get better.

"Mrs. Islas," her psychiatrist greeted me.

"Hello."

"Please come on in," he smiled and lead me inside his office. "Have a seat."

I sat down on one of the chairs and folded my hands on my lap.

"Please let's get straight to the point. I don't need any formalities. I want my Fleur back," I sighed.

He nodded and took a seat on the opposite side of his desk. "Very well, I will tell you everything you need to know Mrs. Islas."

The psychiatrist took a deep breath before talking. "Fleur has been through a lot these past months. Her former psychologist wrote in her last report that Fleur was pushing herself very hard to remember the past. When she regained her memories, everyone was happy, but you cannot forget what that she remembered her ex-boyfriend, their break up, her finding out that she was pregnant with his child, the abortion and how he had let her down during that crucial time. That weighs heavily on a young woman who has been trying to recover both physically and mentally, but what sent Fleur over the edge was when she overheard that she will not be able to bear a child again. Something short-circuited inside her brain right at that moment. We have done a CT scan of Fleur's head. It shows activity inside her brain, but it's very limited. I have had patients with similar mental conditions as Fleur."

"Did they recover?" I asked, hoping he would say yes.

"Some of them did. Some recovered with medication, some with a lot of patience, therapy and support from their loved ones. What I can conclude from the psychologist's reports was that Fleur is very fragile, more than she led on to be," he explained.

"What are you trying to say?"

"Medication isn't the solution for her as it only helps to keep her calm."

"Then what is the solution? I want my little girl back!" I cried.

"I'm sorry Mrs. Islas, but I cannot do anything for Fleur. She either comes out of this herself or she remains like she is right now...possibly forever," the psychiatrist said with a sympathetic voice.

...

"That's what her psychiatrist said," I told my family later that evening.

"Does Fleur have to stay there?" Mateo asked.

"He didn't say, but I don't like that cold and gloomy place. Every time I step into that building, I feel miserable. It's not the right place for her," I sighed.

"I agree with you mom," Fabio said.

"Bring my daughter back home! We will take care of her. She has suffered enough!" my husband shouted and slammed his fist on the table.

We were surprised by his sudden reaction, but I was glad that he had spoken his mind.

Fleur's family and loved ones are  a broken mess, because they don't know how to help Fleur to get better. The psychiatrist informed her mother what is going on with Fleur, but it doesn't look very hopeful, does it?

Do you think Fleur should be home with her family?

I hope you guys are having a good weekend ♥

Lots of love,

Lora :)
