Lily's POV:
"Tempus Vernum!" I flicked my wrist at the ceiling of my dorm room. I had just discovered the spell in my charms textbook and I wanted to test it.
The ceiling became obscured by mist. That was odd. What was happening?
That was when it started to pour rain.
"Augh! Lily! The other schools are going to arrive today! I want to look nice!"
Poor Rose's carefully arranged curls were drenched. I was underneath the canopy of my bed, so I was still dry.
"Sorry, Rosie!" I exclaimed, stopping the rain with finite incantatem and restoring the furniture using reparo. I said the spells silently this time, as we were working on them in class and I couldn't wait to master them. I could do simple spells, but-
A loud shriek sounded from downstairs, and I turned hastily to Rose. "Did you hear that?"
"Obviously." She turned in front of her mirror so that she could magically recurl her last strand of wild hair into a long, loose ringlet like mine.
I went to stand next to her. "What d'you reckon made the noise?"
"Albus, probably. Scorpius said something about a prank last night."
She flushed as she said Scorpius's name, and I felt a pang of slight annoyance at the boy. Why couldn't he stop hurting Rose?
Something rose in my memory... something from last night... but it was like déjà vu. I couldn't remember it and I knew it should have been there. That relapse... the way Scorpius had just appeared...
And I knew what had happened. He had done something and then obliviated me.
Why?
Rose added a silver butterfly pin to the front of her robes along with her Gryffindor one and then turned to me, ready to go. "You're wearing that? You can't possibly."
"Why not?" I forgot what I had been thinking about, diverted. I was wearing my uniform and robes, and my hair was pulled back into a ponytail like I usually did it. I had no makeup on- I never wore it. I inspected my rumpled socks anxiously. Were they the cause of her dismay?
Rose clucked at me. "You haven't got a particle of sense when it comes to clothes."
"I know the socks are messy, but-"
"Oh, not that! Just- well- you don't look like you care what you look like."
"I don't care."
"Well, today you're going to. We're not leaving until I say you're presentable enough."
