Aphmau's POV
I start sparring with Katelyn. As Katelyn and my swords are clashed, Katelyn ponders in her thoughts.
"I want you to win." She says.
"What?" I ask.
"You heard me right. I want you to live. You have people who care about me. Everyone who I cared about is now dead... Some dead due to the Games, the others due to natural causes. I don't have anything to live for, really." Katelyn vents.
"Why me tho?" I question.
"You have a family.." She trails off.
"I have two brothers." I correct.
She rolls her eyes, "You know what I mean." She finishes.
I look over at Laurance, Garroth and Travis. Travis glances at me, flashing me a quick smile, then returning to whatever he was doing.
"HEY, GUYS." Katelyn releases her blade from mine and starts walking over to the three boys. I follow behind.
"Yes?" The three of them say in unison.
"Do you want Aphmau to win?" Katelyn asks.
"Of course." The three say in unison.
I sigh, "Why?" I question.
"Because, you deserve to win." Garroth replies.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"You've saved so many people. You have two brothers back in 12 to look after... You have something to live for. And the only thing I have to live for will most likely die." Laurance answers, glancing at Cadenza in his last sentence.
I knew he didn't want to admit it, but everybody knew it. Cadenza's smiling with Kiki, Brendan and Aaron. Aaron's on the wall, Kiki, Cadenza and Brendan all laughing. Tears swell in my eyes as the sight of them lingers in my eyes. I turn away swiftly, sniffing.
"I'll make sure she survives. That's a promise." I promise sincerely.
"Really?" Laurance asks.
I nod, "But you HAVE to win." Travis starts.
"I have someone that'll take care of Levin and Malachi." I state.
"Who?" Everybody asks.
"Her name's Marshal. She was my best friend back at 12. Before... Now, obviously. I probably won't win..." I trail off.
Garroth grabs my shoulders, turning me around and looking me in the eye, "We'll make sure you win. Dead or alive." Garroth states.
"No. Cadenza is going to win." I reply sternly.
I shove his hands off of my shoulders, then walk off, "Where're you going?" The Man asks, stepping in front of me.
"Somewhere." I growl.
"Back to the arena?" The Man questions.
"None of your business." I reply.
The Man chuckles, "Actually... Sweetie.. It is." He smirks.
I push past him and storm down the stairs, "HEY, COME BACK!" I hear people yell behind me.
I can't make out who, due to the echoing in the stairwell. Nobody has come after me, or, at least of what I know of. I walk down the halls that my alliance and I walked over just a few hours ago.
Aaron's POV
I turn into my ghostly figure and follow Aphmau. She doesn't suspect anything, so I continue to follow. She makes her way to the huge craters in the arena's wall. Both her and I look out in amazement. I turn back into my human form, which apparently startles Aphmau. She pins me to the wall with her sword at me neck. Once she realizes it's me, she slowly releases. We both turn around to see a vast field of green grass where the arena used to be.
Aphmau and I look at each other, "Home sweet home." I mutter.
"Exactly." She replies.
We then step out of the eerie stairwells and take everything in. We're free at last...!
Katelyn's POV
We look around frantically. Or, at least Laurance, Garroth, Travis and I. We search the halls to see a huge field of grass. Fresh and beautiful grass. The four of us run out only to find Aphmau and Aaron starring at everything.
"Aphmau? Aaron?" I question before any of the boys can.
Aphmau turns around swiftly, her expression softening. She runs up, hugging me.
"We have to bring Cadenza." She mutters in my ear.
"Over here!" A high-pitched, British voice calls out from behind the stone wall.
Cadenza and her fiery hair peek out from the wall, "Cadenza?" Laurance questions.
"I was following you guys the whole time. Surprised you didn't notice." Cadenza chuckles.
Laurance looks absolutely relieved, "Lets find a way out of here." Aphmau suggests.
"Agreed." Travis says.
A gust of wind blows, causing Cadenza's hair to.. Hit me in the face. Fantastic.
"C-Cadenza! Get your hair out of my face!" I spit pieces of her hair out of my mouth.
Literally... There's so much of it! Cadenza apologizes, then pulls her long hair into a ponytail using the ponytail holder that we had previously found.
"What about the others?" Aaron asks.
"We have to leave them. We can't risk going back.." I answer.
"We can't just leave them!" Aphmau exclaims.
"We have to!" I growl.
Aphmau isn't the one to back down, so she doesn't, "I refuse to leave them." She states sternly.
"Then suit yourself. I'm not going back in there. I can't risk being back there." I reply.
She scowls, then walks off. Aaron trails behind. A voice's laughter rings around the sky. Where the stone hallways used to be, are now gone and replaces by a forest of trees.
"You think you escaped? This is the second round! You left training early... Now suffer the consequences." The Man's voice echoes.
Everybody's face turns into pure panic, "W-What?" I stutter. I guess we weren't home free... ONLY IN THE SECOND ROUND!
