Alice's PoV

I wiped away my tears.

"H-hello I'm alice" I shakely said.

Alois pov

She was even more beautiful close up, she made me feel something inside. She didn't look like she was from a wealthy background but I didn't care.

"So Alice, why was that man hurting you" I asked. She looked down and played with her fingers

His voice sounded so cheery, I didn't want to tell him. He looked like he was a respectable earl or something, which made me wonder why he had helped me. Why help a low life like me. No one has ever helped me.

"What happened you your neck" he asked. I looked up at him, thankful he went off topic. My neck?  Oh I see. "It looks very red" he said looking closer. Again I didn't want to tell him. I got it from an angry customer. He strangled me because apparently I wasn't doing a good enough job. Well when your having each drop of your happiness drained from you for 4 years then you can see why I started to lag

"Slight incident" I whispered.

"I'm intreeged, tell me more" he seemed to be quiet childish.

"E-E" I stuttered. Suddenly the carriage started move and it went over a bump which caused me to go go flying forward and landing on top of Alois.

"Easy now we have only just met" Alois whispered in a seductive tone. I whispered an apology and got off him. He was sat with a smirk on his face. For some reason I slightly liked it

"Can I ask why you are helping me" I asked. It sounded very forward but I was curious

"When a beautiful girl is in trouble I can't not help" he smiled. I felt my heart flutter a little.

"I see, where are we going it's just I have to be somewhere" I said remembering my mother. Alois face dropped a little

"Where do you need to be" he asked. Completely ignoring my question.

"With my mother" I said in a low voice.

"What's wrong with her" he asked. His voice was less lively

"She's sick" I sighed. Alois looked concerned

"Can't your father look after her or something" he asked, sounding a little insensitive

I felt my chest tighten and my throat burn. I felt my eyes begin to blur

"He's dead" I muttered. Barely any sound escaped my mouth.

I know how she felt. I had lost my dad too. And mum. I'm sure her mum will be the next to go. I could tell how upset she was. For some reason. Seeing her in pain made me in pain. I hadn't know her for long but I felt like I had know her for a while

I wanted her to be my wife. (Easy now Alois)

It also made me curious why she wasn't answering the questions about her self. Like she was ashamed. Like her past seemed dark.

Like mine

Alois looked deep in thought, his face was changing though. It looked sad, the he smiled a little then his face looked like he had seen a ghost. He closed his eyes slightly then looked at me with a lost expression. He then shook himself out of it.

" do you need anything for the mother, medicine?" He asked, his voice building up with that cheerful child like tone.

"I don't want to trouble you I-" he then cut me off

"No, please, I know what it feels like to lose the ones you love , I don't want it happening to you, a second time" he said with a faint smile yet a sicken tone lingered. I looked deep into his icy blue eyes. I could see something. But I didn't know what.

"CLAUDE" he shriked which made me jump

"TAKE US TO THE PHARMACY" he yelled in a demanding tone. He then looked at me and smiled, the shadow on his face made him look sinister.

"So you never told me why he was hurting you" Alois said, he sat forward to the sinister shadow went away. I looked down and sighed

"Old customer" I said, trying to hide the truth behind what I did. I didn't want him judging me, or trying to take advantage.

"A customer of what" he asked. Leaning closer. His eye brow raised. I tucked my lips in and looked up. I began to shake my legs. I didn't want to tell him. I didn't want to tell the truth. Knowing what I did to make money might disgust him enough and he won't help me.

"We are at the pharmacy your highness" Claude said as he opened the door. I sighed in relief. I stood up and started to walk out and alois followed.
