Unexpected Love

Chapter Ten

Skarlet heard Lance's car stop in front of her house. Skarlet took her buttered bagel as she put her bag over her shoulder and walked out of her house. Skarlet kisses Lance's cheek. "First day back," Lance reminded her, "are you ready?"
"Ready as ever," Skarlet answered as she took a bite from her bagel.
Walking into the school felt kind of awkward. She noticed the spot where Aaron had shot her down was stained by her blood. Now the school will always have a piece of me, Skarlet thought as she walked past. Skarlet saw her locker covered in get well cards, flowers and a few small Teddy bears taped to the locker. Skarlet smiled as she was surprised she remembered her locker combination. Lance came up to her, "Doing good to far?"
Skarlet smiled taking the cards and Teddy bears down and putting them into the locker. "So far so good," Skarlet answered while getting her morning books.
She looked at Lance as she has been wanting to ask a question ever since she woke up in the hospital. "Lance, can I ask you something?"
"Of course," Lance answered as he grew a bit anxious from Skarlet's tone.
"When you said you loved me," Skarlet said looking over to the blood stained floor, "did you mean it?"
"I did mean it. I wouldn't have said it if I didn't, even though you were dying in my arms. I do love you Skarlet. I want to be with you always."
Skarlet felt her eyes water up. She looked down as she was embarrassed by the tears that wanted to come out. Lance lifted her head gently by her chin and smiled while wiping away her tears, "Don't cry Skarlet."
"I'm sorry, they are happy tears I swear," Skarlet told him as she dried her eyes.
Lance smiled and held her close as he walked her to her class.
Going to the bathroom, she couldn't help but to stop and stare at the floor. She walked over as she held her chest. She took a deep breath as she felt a sharp pain. She backed up from the stain. "Red, are you OK?" Skarlet heard Mr. Brooks ask.
Skarlet looked over at him, "I feel like a ghost, just siting on the sidelines watching everybody."
Mr. Brooks walked over to Skarlet and patted her shoulder. "Sure you died for a few minutes but you were brought back. Your here now and that's is what matters. You're like a daughter I never had. I'm glad your back Red. It might seem strange now, but you'll get back to your old self."
Skarlet looked at Mr. Brooks and took a deep breath, "Thank you Mr. Brooks and thank you for the bear."
Mr. Brooks nodded with a smile and went into his classroom.
Skarlet saw Lance come up to her. She looked at him and smiled, "You want to get out of here?"
Lance smiled and leaned up against the lockers, "Weren't you complaining a few days ago how you missed English class with Mr. Brooks?"
"I'm sure he will understand."
Lance grabbed Skarlet's hand and guided her out the nearest exit.
Skarlet put her seatbelt on as Lance turn the engine on and left the school. Lance looked over, "Where to?"
Skarlet shrugged, "Anywhere."
Lance smiled and turned the corner.
Lance parked his car near an empty park that they once went to before. Skarlet smiled, not having been here for a while. Lance looked around and saw an ice cream stand. "Want some?" Lanced asked her.
"Sure," Skarlet answered and got out of her car.
They walked over and asked the old man for two ice cream cones. Skarlet licked her ice cream as Lance paid for them. As they sat down in the swings, Lance slid her a napkin. Skarlet looked at him as he pretended that he didn't do anything while he ate his ice cream. Skarlet smiled and opened the folded up napkins. Will you go out with me? Skarlet read as there was two boxes. It was so cheesy, she loved it. Skarlet took a pen from Lance's pocket. Skarlet folded up the napkin and slid it over casually, pretending that she didn't give him anything. Lance laughed as he flipped the napkin for Skarlet to her add on box that said about time you asked me next to it.
