You could tell that something was up with Draco. He had been strange since term started and you were beginning to worry - had you done something wrong? He was cold, distant, he had changed for the worse. He hardly spent any time with you and barely glanced your way any more. There were no more lingering looks exchanged during Potions nor were there kisses given in between lessons. There was just nothingness and you absolutely hated it. That's why, when Draco walked down the stairs from his dorm you confronted him.

"Malfoy" You hissed angrily as he didn't acknowledge you the first time you hollered

Draco turned around looking bored and uninterested but you could see a hint of fear in his eyes. Good, he should be scared, you though idly.

"What is going on with you?" You asked, your demeanour breaking slightly as your voice shook. Draco looked around the empty common room, everybody had gone to their lessons.

"I can't tell you anything" Draco said

"What is this about" You cried as tears stung your eyes "Please, just tell me! Is it me! Are you sick of me! Do you want Pansy now or something!?"

Draco shook his head roughly as he stepped forward and took your hands into his "I love you" He said softly "and I know that you love me but I- I'm scared that you wont when I tell you"

"I will always love you" You said as you cupped his cheek.

"My father was sent to Azkaban, as you know, and I- I well, I took his place" Draco said

"As the head of the family?" You asked although you knew that wasn't what he meant

"As a Death Eater, Y/n" Draco whispered as he raised his left sleeve where the Dark Mark was inked onto his forearm

Your hand raised to your mouth as a gasp escaped it and you looked at Draco, the boy you loved, with fearful eyes. You weren't scared of him, no, you were scared for him. You didn't say anything but merely pulled him into your arms and hugged him tightly to you and that was all that he needed.
