The above was the original cover design. There were some variations with the text, but the image, based on an iStock photo by Tobi, was the same through the early variations. The concept was to create a sense of "emptiness" while suggesting a possible depiction of the interior of the Maze of Black where scenes of the story take place.
Another version of the cover used the Morpheus graphic with the solid background and no photograph. The concept here was to attempt to appeal to comic book and anime fans on Wattpad.
The "bedroom" cover design was based on a cropped image of the painting Morpheus and Iris, by Pierre Narcisse Guerin, 1811. This design was intended to emphasize the romantic and mythological aspects of the work.
For this alternate cover the iStock photo by Tobi was revisited with a higher resolution image and somewhat different orientation and fonts used.
The "guitar" cover goes with the music/album label theme of the previous explicit/radio edit versions and related to the instrument the main character plays. It is based on an image by Pixabay user Pete Linforth released under a CC0 license.
The "Concert" cover was created in attempt to emphasize the musical aspects (and de-emphasize the romantic aspects) of the work while also trying to create an immersive, less abstract feel than the guitar cover. It is based on an image by Pixabay user "shbs" released under a CC0 license.
The "Orchid" cover was created to look more contemporary with 2019 Fantasy releases. It combines multiple illustrated graphics by multiple artists used under CC0 license.
