Today was Ellie's birthday. Since she liked the park so much, I thought I'd bring her there one last time before we had my mom's cake.
I checked my reflection in the mirror at least a million times before we got there. My heart was racing. When we got to the park I told Ellie to wait on the swing. Ellie smiled and did as she was told. I walked over to the flowers and picked some. Red roses. Ellie loved the color red, and it brought out her eyes too.
"Ellie." I said to her, holding out the roses. She took them from me and sniffed them. "Ellie, even though we haven't known each other for long, w-will you be my girlfriend?"
"Jason!!!" She shrieked, jumping up from the swing. "This is he best birthday present anyone could ever give me!" She put her arms around me and squeezed me tight. She was strong.
"I take that as a yes?" I asked, slowly wrapping my arms around her.
"Of course!!!" Ellie kissed me on the cheek and then put her head on my shoulder.
"Hey, that's my thing." I said this calmly, even though my heart was racing inside. Ellie said yes!
Ellie laughed, and in that moment she lit up my world.
