"Tsubaki, look ! This book is great !" You said as you ran to your maid, who happened to be just in the same age as you. Seven.
The said girl showed a smile, nodding. "It's great, princess."
"You should read it too ! I'll make sure you do." You huffed as you placed the book in your hands.
Tsubaki is the child of two knights who worked for your parents. And since she's like, ten months older than you, and is born as a knight because of her parents' position, she was placed as your servant while both of you were still five.
Not that you saw her just as your maid, and your knight. She was your best friend, too ! She's kind and trustworthy, and respectful. Too pure for this world, anyways.
It was all happy of course, throughout the years, but that... Well, came to an end at your 18th birthday.
"Stand back, (y/n) ! I can't let this thing harm you !"
"You're going to die !"
Spinning the katana in her hands, since she was more fond of those than a real sword, Tsubaki glared at the person in front of you both.
"Like my parents, I'm ready to die for your safety. You may not be the crowned one to rule, but you're still royalty." She turned, smiling.
"And a friend. My friend."
"I have my own powers---I-I can stop time, I can summon anything, I can seal anything ! I can protect myself enough ! Tsubaki please--"
You watched in horror as Tsubaki ran ahead, swinging at the man in black, who was holding a grin.
The man was strong. Strong enough to make it to your room without any scratches. Each guard in the castle had their powers bestowed by the king and queen---any sort of power to make sure the residents in the castle are safe.
...And to think he was able to steal them all...
Tsubaki had the ability to control lightning and electricity. And she used this ability to increase the pain of her attack---if she lands any.
"You're just making this hard for yourself, knight. You know you'd lose." The man said with his eyes glowing. "I can read your mind. You see, once I take your powers, you die. It's this world's rule, right ?" He said as he dodged Tsubaki's attacks in swift, effortless movements.
Tsubaki panted, taking a few steps back from exhaustion. "I won't... Let you touch her..."
"Even if you die ? Idiotic."
"...Even if I die. Now fight and stop talking !" Tsubaki yelled out, and ran ahead again.
You stared in panic, before looking down at your hands. Summon something. Anything !
"Eini, Eiko, Eiru, Eins !"
You muttered as you started drawing symbols in the air in front of you, seeing a slight glow follow your finger. But before you even had the chance to picture the creature you'd summon...
"R-run, (y/n)..." Tsubaki muttered as a blur started making its way to you. You were too busy trying to summon anything to even hear her----and when you did look ahead...
"Three powers. So you're the third princess ? You have most of the powers, judging the fact that the younger royalty you are, the more powers you have. Lucky." He grinned, raising a hand.
"Well, they're all mine."
You tensed in fear, staring at the man's glowing red eyes. Then, you felt like your chest was compressing. You coughed, and started struggling for air as you saw a glow of blue start to make its way to his hand. It grew worse, and worse, and the blue color started to glow brighter. You screamed in pain, feeling an ability leave you.
The ability to freeze time.
But that was all. His grin grew, but the next thing you saw was a person's back---a ponytailed black hair.
"...I told you to run."
"No !" You sat up in a jolt, panting heavily. "No, Tsu..." You blinked, and noticed your surroundings, before sighing deeply and holding your head.
"...Another dream..." You grumbled, laying back down.
Your servant, and your best friend, died that day. You fainted after losing an ability---and when you woke up, the sad news was informed. Tsubaki's ability was taken and since each ability is created and connected with your life, well... She died like the other guards in the palace.
It has been months since that day. Four months...?
She died really young, and the fact that it was partly your fault for not being able to help her gave you nightmares every night.
Since then, you were alone. And they were still searching for a replacement. Funny, right ? It's been four months. And no one wanted to protect you as much as she did---they knew you had too much powers, and knew that it was dangerous since the man escaped that day. His name ? Unknown, but one of them said he was called Night. Of course he is. He was all in black that day."Milady ?" Soul knocked from the other side of the door, making you sigh.
Soul is, well, Maka's personal assistant but because yours is gone... Well, he's covering up as that. Temporarily. Not like Maka minded. She may be the crowned princess, the oldest one from Patty and you, but she's kind. And nerdy. Secretly.
"Yep ?"
"There's breakfast in the dining room. Please come over after you change your clothes." He said gently, making you groan and get out of bed. "Yeah. Sure."
With that, you heard footsteps leave and fade.
It was the same everyday. Wake up, change into that fancy fluff dress you hate so much because you step on it and trips you at times, and go out to deal with everyday. And food. And responsibilities.
At the dining table, there's nothing much, just chit-chat with random topics with your family. But today, it was different.
As you went back to your room, your mother's words were stuck in your head.
"We finally found a knight for you. He'll be here around lunch time, so we'll dine with him. Get yourself ready, okay ?"
It's a He. Yeesh. Wouldn't it be awkward ? Well... Maka has Soul as her butler and knight so you thought it wasn't.
But damn, hours later, you knew you were so wrong.
