Chapter Two

In the darkest corner of the Shadowlands, knights hung in shackles mounted to the back of the wardrobe. Their pale skin hung from their emaciated bodies, lesions ringed their wrists and ankles where the metal cuffs had bitten into them. An air of helplessness surrounded them adding to the stench of unwashed person. Armour clanked and grated as one knight shifted, desperate to alleviate the pain of being suspended like wet washing. Hope had turned into desperation which had been replaced by hopelessness when every knight in the Realm was chained and shackled. Realisation that their only hope of escape was to do it themselves and that had proved impossible thus far. There was no wondering as to who had captured them as they’d all had the same mission. But it still stung their pride to have been bested by their nemesis. If only there was someone left to give them a small chance of being rescued.
