Chapter 4- The Cotillion To End All Cotillions

Charlie's POV
"I don't think I can do this Jax" I say nervously and she waves a hand at me

"Nonsense! You will do fine-"

"I'm not talking about the cotillion Jax. You know what I am talking about" Yes, Jax knows and she has for a while. Jax is friends with my older brother Ethan and we have all been friends for a long time. Ethan told Jax when they passed and she came to the funeral, I made her swear that she wouldn't tell anyone. Especially Logan.

"Everything will be fine. Dry your eyes and put on that pretty smile of yours. My brother might have made a big mistake but he didn't mean it. He just meant to find the girl with the journal and that girl just happened to be you. My brother has made a lot of mistakes in the past but I can assure you that this is not one of them" she says while giving me a hug

"Your right. It was a simple mistake. I can forgive him" I honestly don't know if I can, I mean... He read my journal. My personal thoughts. All gone because he exposed how I really feel by showing it to Colin. I know that the both of us drifted apart all those years ago... But I have my reasons.

"Alright, it starts in a half hour so I can stay here if you want" Jax says and I nod

"Sure, did you see that Luke shaved his beard?-"

"Oh my god yes! Fetus Luke is back, but I liked the stubble, it was still hot" She says and I chuckle. "Can I ask you a question, and answer honestly" I nod

"Have you ever liked my brother?" Yes. Yes I have. I was in love with him in fact. She sees that I am hesitant to tell her so she says "it'll stay between us girls"

"...yes... I did. But then shit hit the fan. There's a lot of stuff that you guys don't know and... It's just messed up. It's the reason I shut him away... I didn't want him getting involved in..."

"In what?"

"My dad was...involved with very bad people" I say and she nods

"Oh, say no more, it's okay. I can see that it is bothering you so I won't badger you about it" She says while smiling and I nod

It was fun while the hour lasted, we laughed, we cried, we were fangirling over 5 Seconds Of Summer which we are obsessed with by the way, and we even cried a little. But now the fun is over and the announcer is announcing us girls.

"And now today we have Charlotte Morano being accompanied by Logan Hudson. Charlotte is the outdoorsy type, she loves getting her hands dirty and she lives amusement parks" I kept my description short because people don't need to know me. In public I have the perfect life and put on a perfect smile, but at home, all hell is loose.

"Outdoorsy type huh?" Logan says with a smile as I meet him at the bottom of the stairs and go onto the dance floor. I know this sounds more like a beauty pageant but I can assure you this is our way of cotillion and if you think this is grand, wait until you see prom.

"Yup, a lot has changed in 4 years. As I am sure things with you have changed too" I say with a smile and he nods

"That you are right! I actually took up guitar and singing lessons" he says and I laugh

"You? Mr. Singing is for girls like Luke Hemmings. Remember how mad I got when you said that?"

"Yeah, you through me off the cliff and into the water, how can I forget?" He adds with a chuckle

"Yeah... Good times"

"The best"

After what felt like hours of talking and laughing, I get pulled away from Logan. I look up and see my brother Ethan.

"What are you doing? Where are we going!" I shout causing us to get a little bit of attention

"Ben is here. We have to go" he says and I run as fast as I can. Ben is the guy that my father got involved with, little did he know that Ben was a drug dealer and that my father was going to end up helping him. Anyways, if you thought my parents death was a car accident then you are awfully wrong. First it was my mother, then my father right in front of us. Ben promised to let us go if we continued on the family business.

Basically we have been running from him as frequently as possible. We almost got away with it until he approached us.

"Leaving so soon? They were just about to announce queen and king" Ben says while wrapping his arms around us

"Of course not, I was just showing Charlie around because she was only here once when she was thirteen" Ethan says with a smile

"Alright, then why don't we stand here as a happy family and watch them announce King and Queen" Ben says while bringing us in closer

"If you tell anyone then I will personally take out your friends like I enjoyed taking out your parents" Ben whispers in my ear and I nod

"Alright everybody, your Cotillion queen is... Charlotte Morano!" The announcer says and I go up to receive my crown. "And your king is... Logan Hudson!" The announcer says and Logan and I get crowned by Jax

"See, a match made by fate" she whispers in my ear and I smile. "Now the king and queen shall have their first dance" even though it's not really our first

"So why did Ethan pull you away?"

"He just wanted me to see our uncle Ben"

"So that's the guy who was hugging you guys" he says as realization hits him

"Yup. Sorry about that"

"Don't worry Charlie, your still my best friend-"

"I thought I was your best friend" Colin says like a five year old

"Well if we are going to be five then she's my girl best friend" Logan says and I chuckle. I look over at Ben and Ethan to see that he is fighting and Ben pulls out a knife and tears well in my eyes.

"I.. I have to go I'll text you later" I say while running over to them. "What the hell do you think your doing?! We are at a public event!" I whisper shout and Ben smirks

"Ethan here doesn't want to do a job for me"

"Why would he? You kill people" I spat angrily and he points the knife at me

"That you are right about princess so if you valued your friends lives then you will do the job" he says and I look at Ethan but he shakes his head

"What do you want me to do?" I sigh

"Charlie no-"

"We don't have a choice Ethan!" I shout not caring who can hear me. I look over and see Logan and I start running to the car and Ethan and Ben follow.

I run into the parking lot and that's when I blow up "you show up at my house. You show up at my school. And now you show up at the cotillion and threaten everyone I care about because your a selfish bastard. So tell me, what is it you want me to do now Ben?!" I shout and he smirks

"Eager now aren't we?"

"You wish. Just tell me the damn job so I can get this over with!" I shout with anger clearly in my voice

"Okay, there is this guy Brent that crossed me and I need you to take him out for me. Here is the address, he lives alone so you don't have to worry about family and he doesn't have cameras and he lives in a secluded area in the woods. It will not lead back to you but wear these anyway" Ben says while giving me black gloves and the gun.

"Done" I say while getting into the car and driving to the address. It was the cotillion to end all cotillions.
