a natural masterpiece

in the morning, the sky is grey.
it glimmers a little in the first light of day.
as the sun gets higher, its colour grows.
the sky gets thicker as the morning glows.
by midday it's a beautiful baby blue
letting me know that i'm in love with you.
hours later, just behind my back
the world starts to dip into deep lilac.
the clouds do flips in the darkening sky
and we start to wish that we could fly.
before we realize the change in hue,
the sky takes a tumble and slips into blue.
not baby, like midday, or happy, like you,
it's rich and deep and hard to see through.
the day takes a knee and we double back
to the midnight colour of deep, dark black.
the stars come out and decorate the night,
scattered messily, constellations take flight.
with hopes still kindled and petals uncurled,
we hold on tight and forget the world.
