CHAPTER 22: WHY IT KIND OF SUCKS TO BE HERMIONE GRANGER

Oblivious to the inner turmoil occurring within the depths of Hermione Granger's mind, Draco was as happy as he could be, considering the situation that he was in.

Never mind the fact that Potter had managed to catch up to them so fast, nor that he hadn't gotten to enjoy the joy of whatever Muggles ate for breakfast, but Draco was in the sky, where he enjoyed the serenity, with Hermione Granger, holding onto him tightly, on a Sparker's broom.

If the whole murder suspects running from the law hadn't been a thing, he would have been the happiest man on earth right now.

After a few hours of riding straight south, Draco landed the broom somewhere on a field as it was getting dark. He watched as Hermione stockily got off the broom and lay on the ground for a while, her colour slowly returning to normal, breathing in deeply before sitting up.

That was when he noticed the change in her behaviour.

She began to check them over for any traces placed to keep track of them, and the lack of any, only made her feel more frustrated.

How had Harry found them? Has someone tipped him off? Had there been wizards or witches at the hotel that had spotted them? There couldn't have been! She would have noticed the presence of another magic user easily, especially within the vicinity of something like a building.

Draco watched her closely, taking note of the fact that her face was completely passive of emotions, and her movements robotic, like she was a machine. It didn't take him much longer to figure out that she was having an internal battle, one that he was not privy to, and that it as affecting her quite badly.

"Granger, I'm not usually a very perceptive person. If you don't tell me things, I won't understand it. Verbalise it for me, what's going on in that head of yours?" he asked calmly, seating himself beside her.

Hermione broke out of her thoughts to stare at the man next to her, wondering how different life during school would have been if she'd been friends with Draco Malfoy from the start. For one thing, he seemed far more susceptible to her mood changes than Ron or Harry had ever been.

"Next time something like that happens, we're jumping out of the window." She muttered, grabbing the broom off him and stuffing it into her bag. Draco almost cried at the terrible treatment of the world's most beautiful broomstick, keenly aware that if anyone other Qudditch player had seen that, they would have attacked her directly.

Sighing loudly, Hermione clicked her tongue in irritation and stood up suddenly. Taking out her wand, she looked around the area they were in once more before placing her wand on her palm and muttering "point me." Her wand began to swing around wildly before it settled, pointing eastwards.

Draco watched the magic in awe and confusion, trying to figure out what she was doing before it dawned on him that he was finding out the Golden Trios biggest secret- how they managed to get around places so easily! It was a bloody spell!

"So that's how you've been doing it all these years, Granger! You've been cheating!" Draco tsked, shaking his head, though his smirk grew as she glared at him in annoyance.

Hermione's glare lessened when she caught his carefree expression. How did he do that? Here she was stressing out about what country she was in and the possibility of death and chaos that was sure to follow, but he was so carefree in just moments.

How did he do that? Draco grinned at her widely, and she sighed again, oh, right, he was an idiot.

"What the hell are you talking about Malfoy? I've never cheated in my life," she snorted, avoiding eye contact as she began to follow her wand, aware that he was following her with a smile that made it clear that he thought he was going to win this conversation.
