I finally bought "Wretched and Divine" by Black Veil Brides on iTunes... and I listened to it for 3 hours straight because it's a whole story in an album.
It tells the story of rebels called the "Wild Ones" fighting against an organization called F.E.A.R. that runs the world. Thing is, it's all told through music and lyrics. It has transmissions from F.E.A.R. which are propaganda against the rebels, lyrics about the struggles and battles, it's a whole storyline through 19 tracks. It even has an overture piece to let you imagine a battle victory for the rebels.
Basically, the plot is F.E.A.R. controls the world, and one man decides to fight back, realizing he is the prophet people have been needing. He rallies everyone up to fight, and after a few winds, our hero goes behind the scenes for a few years. After that, he returns with a rally cry to fight F.E.A.R. which they win against in a few battles. The prophet then becomes angry because of the soldiers they lost, wanting revenge. He warns the government that they're soon to be defeated, so they better watch their backs. The hero then goes back to where he used to live (not sure about that one), and realizes it might all be too much. He decides to leave the rebellion, after losing battles and feeling down. Luckily, he gets it together, and has one final battle against F.E.A.R. I won't spoil the ending of if they win or lose, but they knew that it was the end, and they weren't afraid to die.
I actually cried from listening to this album because I felt the pain and suffering the characters were going through. I never cry at music usually. Every time a song ended, I would think to myself,
Come on! Play the next one! What happens next!?
I got invested in the story like I would reading a book or a fanfiction. That takes true talent to do with music. My mom (who is in a band and writes songs) told me a lot of albums tell stories, but this one is specifically made to tell a story.
Since I'm really into #WTFU at the moment, I imagined the story like it was YouTube vs. The Companies like what is happening right now. That made it even more emotional for me since I've been affected by the bullshit the big companies have been pulling.
I had heard "In The End" in May of 2015, which actually saved my life. I was in a downward spiral because I had my heart majorly broken, my dad was getting crazier by the day (I don't talk to him anymore), my grades were suffering, and I was suicidal. When I heard the song, I realized something big:
I don't want to be remembered as someone who gave up. I want to be remembered as someone who lived her life to the fullest.
If it wasn't for Black Veil Brides, I wouldn't be here today, and I'm not the only one. I've heard many stories from the BVB army of the music changing their lives for the better. Emo bands tend to do that for people because they talk about emotions and problems that are real to their listeners. I'd say this album is the best $8 I've ever spent.
I highly recommend you listen to this album even if you don't like Emo music.
QOTE (I keep forgetting to do this)-Is there a band or song that has changed your life?
