When I woke up, I was in such a content and blissful state, I didn't even realize the apartment was empty until I rolled over onto a note next to me on the pillow.

I sat up and looked around with bleary eyes, taking in the sun streaming through the window and the hot pot of coffee on the counter in the kitchen.

I remembered the note and grabbed it from the bed, a smile coating my face as I got a waft of Bucky's scent.

I'll be back soon. I hope you slept well.

There was no signature and the note itself was rather minimalistic, but it was perfect and fit Bucky's personality.

I yawned and stretched. I hadn't gotten such a good night's sleep in a long time. I pulled myself to my feet and moved to the windows, opening them to let the fresh air in.

I looked around the room, propping my hands on my hips. It really was dismal in here. In fact, it looked even worse in the sunlight. But it was Bucky's home and that made it a lot more endearing to me.

I sighed, breathing in the fresh air. I felt incredibly refreshed after last night. I reached over and began to make the bed. I was sure Bucky hadn't bothered to make his bed since he moved in, but I felt like I needed to make it up to him in some way for letting me use his apartment.

When I was done, I straightened and assessed myself. I didn't have clothes to change into, or a toothbrush, so I felt a little gross, but I couldn't find it in myself to be upset about it. I was simply content for the first time in awhile.

I was also incredibly relaxed. I haven't had that nice of a sleep in a long time. It was as if Bucky's mere presence was enough for me to let loose of all my inhibitions.

I was worried about the extent of an effect Bucky had on me and I couldn't help but try to tell myself not to get too attached. Even then, I knew it was too late.

I moved away from the window and turned to the kitchen in search of something to eat. The clock on the wall above the fridge let me know that it was almost noon, and I couldn't help but be surprised. I hadn't slept in so late in such a long time.

I found a radio tucked behind the toaster and eagerly turned it on to fill the silence. I almost laughed when, as I turned it on, a police station came on instead of music. I rolled my eyes and hoped it wouldn't upset Bucky too much as I changed it to a music station.

As an old 80s song began to fill the kitchen, I turned to the fridge. I wasn't surprised to see it almost empty, but thankfully there was enough for me to make some eggs and toast.

I hummed along with the music and began to dance as the chorus started. I was happy and content. I couldn't believe how comfortable I had become in Bucky's presence. Especially, when he had told me over and over that he wasn't safe.

I felt like I needed to talk everything out with Nico. I never kept things from him, but this was something I felt like I couldn't tell him. I was constantly being hounded by Avengers, I didn't want to pull him into the same situation. He deserved so much more after everything we had gone through.

But I couldn't help but admit to myself that I missed him and the way we used to talk without anything holding us back.

I heard the door open in the other room and a smile lit up my face, my mood immediately lifting. I swished my hips along to the music as I flipped an egg.

"Hey, you hungry?" I called out, sashaying to grab the salt from the top of the fridge.

There was no answer, except for the door closing quietly. Footsteps started heading towards the kitchen, but I didn't turn around.

"I changed your station, I hope you don't mind!" I said, "But even you have to admit this is a lot easier to dance to than the police station."

I could hear the footsteps stop in the doorway of the kitchen. I nodded my head along with the music and reached over to grab some plates from the cabinet.

"I made some eggs. I couldn't find anything else in this kitchen, so I did the best I could."

"Why, thanks, sweetheart. I couldn't have asked for more."

I gasped and whirled around at the unfamiliar voice, turning right into a hard chest. An arm wrapped around me and the next thing I knew, a knife was at my throat.
