I woke up and Pan was at a desk looking through the book he'd taken yesterday. I sat up and sleepily walked over to him.
"What is that?" I asked.
"A book about the Underworld."
"Why would you need that?"
He swiftly shut the book.
"No reason, just reading up on this place."
I didn't say anything, I decided I would bring it up later.
He stood up and began shuffling through the other books in a large shelf on the back wall.
"Care to tell me where you got the magic now?" he said still turned towards the bookshelf.
"I got it from...the author."
He turned,
"Henry?"
My face felt hot as I lied,
"Uh...yes."
He gave a puzzled look,
"That's odd, I thought he destroyed the quill."
"Well, he found it. It was down here."
"Even so what use would you having magic be to Henry?"
I tried to change the subject,
"Jeeze is there anything you don't know? All up in people's business."
He laughed,
"I guess so."
It worked, but only for now. Pan rarely forgets anything...
"Hey, I was actually gonna go over there today. I think I left something there." I said after a few moments of silence.
"Okay. If you don't mind, I think it would be best if I didn't come with."
"That's fine." I said with a breath of relief.
At about noon, I walked back to their apartment and walked upstairs to find Henry.
"What's up." Henry said as he read his book.
"Nothing, I just need to borrow the quill for a while."
"I can't give it to you."
"Why not?"
"Why do you even need it?"
"There's just some things I need to change. All good things, I promise."
"The quill is only for recording, not altering. And besides, even if I wanted to give it to you it's not here."
"What?? Where is it?"
"Don't worry, it's safely hidden where no one can get to it."
I exhaled harshly and replied,
"You know, you're making it really hard to be your friend," before leaving the apartment to figure out a plan...
