Jared's P.O.V

Jared’s POV

I sighed and tossed onto my right side for the third time. I couldn’t sleep.

Of course you can’t sleep Jared, you’re such a dumbass.

I sighed again and sat up straight on the couch, causing the sheets underneath me to bunch up. Oops. All of Robyn’s hard work gone to waste.

I smirked as I got up off the couch and stretched my sore cramped body. It was pitch black, but I had been awake so long that my eyes could now see where everything in the room was.

My stomach grumbled. God I wasn’t used to this. It was a whole new experience for sure. And I missed home.

No shit you’re not use to this, you don’t belong here.

I made a sound in my throat at myself and walked towards the kitchen to rummage for food. In a couple of steps, my feet were off the fuzzy cream carpet and stepped onto the kitchen tiles.

The coldness of the floor seeped into my feet as I walked around, quietly opening cabinets, looking for something to satisfy myself with. No matter how hard I looked, all I found was plates, cups, cutlery and more plates. At last, I found a cabinet filled with food. There were cookies, uncooked pasta, popcorn, some chips and miscellaneous items. And tea. Lots of tea.

God this girl didn’t buy anything else to eat. I was gonna die if I didn’t eat soon.

I trudged over to the fridge and slowly pried it open, making sure to position myself in front of the door so that the light wouldn’t leak and light up the whole flat, making Robyn wake up. She didn’t like me at all as it was, and the last thing I wanted was for her to find me looking through her kitchen for food.

I blinked a couple of times to adjust my eyes to the bright light and moved aside a pack of lettuce and carrots only to find more vegetables.

I groaned under by breath. This was going to be a long night. Just as I was about to close the fridge, my eye caught the edge of a container. I smiled as I pulled it out. Pasta. The shit that she absolutely loved to eat and had been living off for God knows how long.

Snapping the lid off and stuck it in the microwave like she always did, for exactly one minute and 45 seconds, making sure to silent it so the sound wouldn’t wake Robyn.

Opening the drawer I had seen holding cutlery, I dug out a fork. Opening a cabinet, I pulled out the pot and looked through other cabinet containing food for a bag of Earl Grey.

God, that girl had rubbed off on me.

I switched the stove on and set the pot that I filled with a cup of water and waited for it to boil. Once it did, I put it back into my mug and stuck a posh looking tea bag into the scalding water.

The microwave beeped quietly twice to indicate the pasta was warm. I yanked the microwave open and stirred the spaghetti around, letting the heat and smell waft up.

My mouth watered as I set it down on the kitchen island but I willed myself to pay attention to the tea first, since it needed milk now.

I grabbed the jug that the bag of milk was in and surely poured in the milk until the tea was a tan caramel colour.

At last, I sat down on a stool joined to the island and hungrily shoved a forkful of the tomato-y pasta in my mouth.

My eyes rolled into my head and I almost moaned out loud at the rich taste of this food in front of me. No wonder she liked it so much. It was the best experience of my life. There was the rich texture of the tomatoes, the favour of the slight salt and the earthy bursts of oregano, basil and garlic.

I groaned in the back of my head as I forked the remaining food into my mouth, quickly scarfing it down. Hopefully she wouldn’t notice it gone tomorrow.

Speaking of her. I had tried to be on my best behaviour, which was not easy at all, especially because I knew how sassy that girl could be. But she could also be really sweet and caring. Too sweet and caring most of the times. She would overly worry about whether she had upset someone by complimenting on someone else’s clothes in front of them; or if someone was angry at her, she would do anything in her will power to make things right. Knowing how sensitive she was, I had kept my mouth shut and been nice. Not that it was hard. No, it came naturally.

The way she had looked when she came out of the elevator had automatically alerted me. She looked like she was physically in pain and her face twisted in a mask of panic. Her dark brown eyes brimmed in tears, causing her thick eyelashes to stick together. There was also a tear on her glasses. Her cheeks were flushed of all colour like she had seen a ghost.

I chuckled at the irony of that. Ghosts.

But in all seriousness, something had happened, enough to make the girl terrified shitless.

My mind swirled with thoughts as I cupped my mug of tea and walked back into the living room. The dishes would take care of themselves.

As I set my cup down to fix the sheets, a shiver crawled up my back. Something about this living room was off.

I straightened up and looked around carefully. Robyn wasn’t up. And she sure as hell wasn’t responsible for the off-ness in the room.

I took a deep breath in and focused myself. There was definitely something weird. It wasn’t the room itself, but something that was in the room.

My stomach twisted as my mind clicked together the puzzle pieces. I knew where I had felt this same feeling before. When I had gone to mental asylums. The presence of something dark, something evil.

My gut wrenched as the last piece fell in place. A demon had been here.

A demon had been in Robyn’s flat. But when? How come I didn’t know? What were they looking for?

Was I getting her into trouble? Dragging her in with me?

I cursed under my breath and sat down, grabbing the now only mildly hot cup of tea and taking a huge sip.

I let it wash around in my mouth while I tried to come up with an explanation before swallowing it down.

My stomach felt warm as I slowly started to grin, distracted now. I took another sip, just to confirm, letting it settle in my mouth before gulping it down.

Yup. It was a miracle.

I, Jared Lex, had made better tea than Robyn. Seriously. I’d love to see her face right now, if she was awake and knew that this had indeed happened.

Mmhm. I’d definitely love to see her face.
