I am following Eric to the gates to our problem. He hasn't said what it is, but that means it is not good. When Eric is quiet, there is something very wrong. So, I imagine the worst. We walk through the rain until we reach the front gates. My eyes widen, and I clench my teeth in fury as I watch Loki standing there with her hands folded in front of her, peacefully. Even though next to her is her two guards that we met the last time, but the bald one is holding Jacob tightly with a knife in front of his throat.
Loki she is standing there as if this is the most normal thing in the whole world. Maybe it is for her. She is staring at me and only me. She is probably doing it to annoy me, and it works perfectly.
"My guard found this one, wandering around," Loki says, calmly. Still, her eyes glued on me. I think she is waiting for me to snap, but I am going to hide my anger.
"What you going do?" I wonder, looking at Jacob, who is much wounded. His face is full of bruises and blood. His dark hair, muddy, so are his clothes. He is badly hurt.
"He killed one of our own, which is a death penalty in our clan." She tells me, firmly. I swallow hard by her big words.
"Its blood for blood," I say, and she nods, slowly. I take a deep breath as I rub my forehead. This is just not happening. One of my great warriors is going to die, and I know for sure, there is nothing I can do for him. I did send him into his death after all.
"Then why did you bring him all over here?" I ask, confused. She could not just do it without reason. Telling me that he is going to die is not enough to make me snap, but I guess she already knew that since she has a little smile on her face.
"I will let him live if you let me in." She says as she knows that I am going to agree to that. I clench my teeth and feel the rain flow down my face. It's getting freezing now, and it makes me almost shiver.
"Fine, but only you and Jacob," I tell her, which she nods to as she takes over my spy, holding him just the way her guard did. I nod to Eric for him to open the gates and Loki comes in slowly with Jacob.
"One mistake and his death would be on your hands." She warns me, looking me deeply in my eyes with her green ones.
"I know," I answer and turn around to go to my tent before I freeze my feet off. Loki is right behind me.
"This is how it looks like here." She says as we come inside. I turn to face her. She might look as innocent as an angel, but I know what a demon she is.
"Why is there no one here?" She wonders.
"They all are down at the market," I explain her. My whole nation is now following my brother, and I am glad they are. It would be complicated if they all saw her here.
"What do you want, Loki?" I ask, cutting it all to the chase. I don't want her here; if someone finds out, it would be a disaster.
"Nothing, really," Her words make me confused.
"Just wanted to see how it looks like here, since when it's all over, it will all be gone." She tells me, not even once her eyes leave me, and it's incredible how she can act so calm. When we all know it's going to be a bloodbath, soon enough. She is excellent to keep her act together, and it's one thing I admire with her.
"Could you please, let Jacob go, so he can go and get help?" I almost plead for the poor guy, who can barely stand on this own feet anymore. She is looking at me, wondering if she can trust me. Right now, she can. I am not going to do anything, even though we can both end it right here, but where is the glory in that? After a short moment, she lets him go slowly, and he falls to the ground trying to find his strength again.
"You know if it was not for me, he would have been tortured badly and died horribly." She tells me, making me clench my teeth.
"What you want? An award for that?" I snort and almost laughed.
"A thank you would be nice."
"We are all gonna die, because of you!" I shout as I step closer to her, but she is just standing there, with her hands folded in front of her and I notice she is a bit taller than I am. Not much, just enough for me to look up into her green eyes. Those who took everything away from me.
"And those people, children," I snap.
"Don't deserve to die, Loki! I wish you could kill me and let them go!" I yell almost in her face now, and it surprises me that she looks a little intimidated by me. It seems like thousands of thoughts are flowing through her mind.
"I am their leader, and I want to give my people what they want. So, that is what I am going to do." She says finally, still so relaxed. I shake my head, amazed.
"Even though it's wrong?"
"Yes." She answers, shortly, but her eyes tell me something else than what she is saying. It's like she is sorry, but she can't admit it. She said that this is for her people, not for her.
Loki will win over their hearts with respect for what she has allowed them to do. That is what she earns and all she wishes for. She is doing this for them to like her as a new leader, even though she has to do horrible things to others.
"You don't have to do this, Loki," I tell her, feeling pity.
"Yes, I do." She says. Still, her tone, firm and proud, but her eyes just not into it. Maybe she doesn't know how easy it is to read them.
"They want, and I give." She explains, shortly and I nod as I sigh.
"Then I guess I see you before I die."
