The first time he saw her, she was playing in her front yard. Her short brown hair was tied up in a ponytail. Her pink dress was covered with dirt while her warm brown eyes were twinkling with delight. Her soft laugh made him smile. He was new to town and she was the first friend he made. They were neighbors, giving them the opportunity to get to know each other. Every day they played together, enjoying like all six-year-olds. Even though they didn’t understand much, the one thing they knew was that they were special to each other. Under millions of stars, they promised each other that they would be best friends. What they didn’t know was that things don’t always go the way you expect.
