Rowing on the Housatonic 2016

So today I started rowing. I had to get up at 5:15 because my class is at 6:30. I mean it was not big deal because I'm an early bird and I'm usually up at like 6 or 6:30. This program goes on for 3 weeks. It ends at 8:00 in the morning. And also I'm in the 8th grade class.

The high school class and the 8th grade class stretched together. Then all the coaches introdiced themselves. Then my class (8th grade class) went inside on the ergs and just warmed up going over the strokes and the movements for each position. The positions are arms, body, legs, and then row.

You usually start at the finish which is when you are leaning back with your arms right at your stomach. The arms are when you are still leaning back, but your arms are put in front of you and now they are straight instead of bent.

The body is when you lean over and make your back straight. The last position is up at the catch where you come up (your on a rolling chair/seat) and you have your outside arm in between you two legs and you are in a sorta crouch, but you sitting. Then you put your oar in and row.

After that we went onto the barges. There are two sides to any boat. If you are in the boat, your left side would be called Starboard and your right side would be called Port. I'm a Port. The coaches refreshed our memories on how to get in.

They then split up the class because here were 20 kids in all. They have two barges and one barge is called the Bulldogs and the other is called Rocket 8. The Bulldogs have 12 seats and them and Rocket 8 has 8 seats in them. I was put with Rocket 8.

After that we got on our boats. I was the leader of the Port side. That means that everyone behind me follows my lead. Then we rowed. Something fun that we do is the Question of the Day. That is where someone picks a question and we have to answer. The questions were favorite holiday, favorite pizza topping, what super power you want, favorite color, and favorite animal. Here is what I answered

Favorite Holiday- Christmas

Favorite Pizza Topping- Pepperoni

What Super Power I want- Invisibility

Favorite Color- Purple

Favorite Animal- Giraffe

After we went back to the dock we just made our cheer. One thing they do for the two barge groups are they make cheers. They do cheers because on race day a.k.a. Friday it pumps them up and its just another fun thing to do. This is Rocket 8's cheer:

I think this is the cheer I have very bad memory😅😂😂. Anywho I will try to remember the cheer tomorrow. Hopefully when the 3 weeks end I'll remember it😂😂

Do you guys want me to share the questions and my answers that we do every day. I don't really care. It would be fun to see how different we all are and to learn more about each other. I don't care, but if you guys want it then I will if you don't then I won't.
