Chapter 6

Days went by and Kate kept trying to call Rick but he never would answer. So she finally left him a text message, 'Rick I am so sorry about all of this. Can we please talk and work this out? I miss you.' 'Fine, I'll you meet at the swings at noon. Bring Alyssa with you, I'd like to see my daughter.' 'Okay, I'll see you then.'

Once they met at the swings, Rick didn't acknowledge Kate and just picked up Alyssa. "Hi alyssa!" "Hi Rick!" "there's something I'd like to tell you. I'm your daddy." "You are?" "Yes sweetie, I'm so sorry I haven't seen you grow up, but that's going to change." "That's okay daddy!" She said hugging his tightly. "Rick, we need to talk. Stop ignoring me." Kate said interrupting his conversation with Alyssa. "Lyss, go play on the slide, while daddy and I talk. Okay?" "Okay, mommy." She said, as Rick put her down and she ran over to the slide. "What's there to talk about? You lied to me about something so important. I don't know if I can forgive you for doing this." "Rick, I made a mistake. I'm sorry. I still love you and I want to work this out." "I love you too Kate but think what if I did this to you? What would you do? You probably would be just as mad as I am. Just think about that for a moment." "That's probably true. But why can't you just forgive me? After everything we have been through. We have had so many ups and downs. We've forgiven each other so many times. Please can we work this out? You can have visits with Alyssa." "What makes you think I want that? I want full custody and that's exactly what I'm going to get. I'm taking her with me back to the loft. She needs a parent in her life who isn't going to lie to her like you did." "No please don't do this." Kate said, starting to cry. "Why shouldn't I?" "Because she needs her mother in her life. I've taken care of her ever since she was born. You can't take her away from me." He saw how upset she was by this and he couldn't help but feel bad because despite what she did, he still loved her. "Fine, I won't file for full custody. But I am taking her back to the loft with me. And I want her to sleep over so we can get to know each other and so she can see my family." "She's going to need some pajamas and her favorite stuffed animal who is named Fluffy. She can't fall asleep without that and her favorite blanket. And you need to read her a bedtime story before she goes to sleep. Make sure there's a nightlight in her room because she is afraid of the dark." "You can bring all of that to the loft later." He said and called Alyssa over. "You're going to go to daddy's house and I'll see you later." "Okay mommy." "Bye Lyss, I love you." Kate said and gave her little girl a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "Bye mommy."

Later that day, Kate went to the loft to drop off Alyssa's things. All Rick kept thinking that day was that 'Kate made a mistake. I've plenty of mistakes during my life. No one is perfect. I love her so much and I'm going to forgive her and we can raise our daughter together. I want her to have both parents in her life.' "Kate. I'm sorry for all the things I said to you these past few days." Kate smiled. "It's fine. I understand. You had every right to be angry with me." "I forgive you Kate. I love you so much." "I love you too Rick." She said pulling him in for a kiss. "It's Alyssa's birthday tomorrow and I think we should all spend it together. Please stay tonight. I'll make breakfast for all of us in the morning." All Kate could do was smile. "Of course I'll stay."
