The next day, I woke up feeling both stressed and at ease.

I rolled over and grabbed my phone from my bedside, checking my messages.

After checking through my texts and notifications, I got up and got dressed.

"You have an ultrasound planned for tomorrow."

"I thought they couldn't get me in for at least a week." I searched the cupboards for cereal.

"Well they had a cancelation, you'll be going in tomorrow night." My father didn't look away from the TV.

Finally giving up, I went back to my room. My phone was sitting on my bed, so I sat down and reached for it.

"So you'll need to tell your parents today sometime if you want to see your baby, I have an ultrasound tomorrow night and I'd like you to be there." Send.

His stress would be through the roof.

"I sent my mother a text," Alex replied. "I told her that something had come up and that we didn't intend it to and that you have an apointment tomorrow and I'd like to be there to console you and help you."

"What did your mother say?"

"She said that they'll support us because they know what it's like for this to happen, and that they will keep it quiet until we're ready to tell people."

My body relaxed as I read his message. "See? That wasn't so bad now, was it?"

"She hasn't told my father yet."

"So? He'll probably react just fine. We already have her support."

My mind relaxed and I hoped he would relax too.

The next morning I laid around and decided on an outfit to wear, as well as read the instructions for my ultrasound.

I had to drink two bottles of water right before my screening, starting an hour before my apointment.

Great. A full bladder with cold goo on my stomach.

My phone buzzed on my desk.

"Hey babe...can you text my mom and remind her about your ultrasound? Just so they remember to give me a ride?"

"Yeah, sure Alex."

I sent a text to Alex's mother, explaining when my ultrasound was and when he would need to be dropped off. She agreed to bring him later.

"Alright, did it. She said you'll be coming later."

"Okay...thank you babe...you've been so strong." Strong? Me? Nah. "You've told everyone and even handled telling my parents about your appointment...that's more then I could do alone..."

I smiled. "Not strong, only necessary. I'll see you later."

---------------------------------------------------------

By 6:45 that night, Alex had been dropped off at my house to wait with me for the ultrasound.

By 7, we were loaded into my father's truck and brought up to the hospital.

It was quiet, and there were lots of parking places. We parked near the front entrance and walked back to the ultrasound/x-ray area.

After being given a number, we waited for my turn to go into the small room around the corner. My father and Alex were the only ones there, besides an older couple waiting on an X-ray.

On a shelf beside the waiting area's chairs, there were kids activity books. I grabbed one with annoyance and flipped through, seeing what kind of puzzles it had.

Within five to ten minutes, I was called into a small dark room. At first it was only me that was aloud to go in, so I went in and was seated on the check up table.

"So whose outside with you?" The ultrasound tech got on gloves and grabbed a small tube of something.

"My father and my boyfriend."

"Is your boyfriend the father?" He asked.

"Yeah."

"Excellent. Please lay back and lift your shirt a bit."

I did as told and braced myself for the cold gel, but when it came, it wasn't cold. The gel was warm, almost a little too warm, but I was much more relaxed with the wamrth.

Next, the tech took a small wand out. It honestly almost looked like a vibrator with a ball at the end. He pushed the wand into my abdomen and ran it along, and it was painful.

The pain was sharp and made me whimper and clench my hands.

A little monitor beside me made two clicking noises and I glanced over before wincing again.

"We're almost done, hold on just a little longer."

After the photos had printed out, he took the wand off and told me to stay put before going out and calling my father and Alex into the room.

After a small bit of talk, he continued with the wand pressed on me to show a live view of the baby.

"Well, if you look here, there's the heart beating away." The tech pointed to a small moving light on the screen, about the size of a small pea. I couldn't help it and smiled. "And here," he said, outlining a larger shape, "is the baby. Here are it's little legs and hands."

Alex held my hand and smiled, letting out small happy laughs.

---------------------------------------------------------

After I was given the two photos that had printed off, we left the hospital and went back to my house to wait for Alex's parents to pick him up. When they showed up, they parked and came onto the porch where Alex and I were sitting, looking at the photos.

Alex's mother glanced at the paper. "is that the ultrasound photo? Can I see?" I nodded, almost reluctantly and handed her the thin paper.

Aexs father spoke up. "Well, it's definitely a baby."

My father came out onto the porch and talked with Alex's parents for a bit about the crib we had just bought.

"Well, since you need practice, hold this." Alex's mom handed me her baby, wrapped in a small blanket. The baby was only around a week old. After handing me the sleeping child, she went into my house with Alex's father to look over the crib.

"I don't know what to do, I've never held a baby before!" I hissed at Alex while looking terrified at the small baby. "I wouldn't mind holding MY baby but holding someone else's? I don't want to fuck her up or something. I don't know what to do."

Alex laughed and smiled, looking at his newborn sister. "Well she seems comfortable, and she's still asleep so that's good. You must be doing something right."

A small smile spread across my face, just as everyone came back onto the porch. The small creature in my arms wiggled and when I looked back down, her face had scrunched up and she made small grunting noises.

"Oh no I think she's waking, what do I do???" Alex smiled and took the baby from me, then rocked her back to sleep.

"Well," Alex's mom said finally. "Get used to that, because I bet your baby will look and act just like mine."
