Chapter Five

June 29, 2014

"Excuse me?" Beyoncé asked through clenched teeth. She was past angry at this point. The fact that Shawn couldn't even back her up was what irked her the most. She had always believed that you backed your partner up in the public, and handle whatever else in private. Granted, these were his friends, but how was it that they weren't out of line?

"We have things to—"

"You mean things that I was going to talk about before we came here? Those things? Those are the things you wish to discuss now? Please let me know, because clearly I don't know a damn thing!"

At this point, she didn't care whether or not his friends were sitting right across from them. He'd already ruined the dinner for her, and this point, she wished that she had driven her own vehicle here.

Kim's face said it all. She regretted bringing Shawn into the conversation, but how was she to know?

"Can we just leave?" Shawn questioned calmly. He'd learned long ago that arguing with Beyoncé while she was this heated wasn't the smartest idea. She'd make you feel and look like the fool in the situation, and he wouldn't have that while they were seated in front of his friends. Abruptly, Beyoncé pushed her chair back and exited the restaurant.

Her walk to the car was filled with her texting her sister. It didn't take long for Shawn to emerge outside and unlock the doors to the car. She immediately got in, throwing her cellphone into her lap. The car ride was silent. There was no radio playing. All you could hear were the sounds of the car driving on the road, horns blowing, and sometimes the music in other cars. Inside of that car, there was nothing.

Bey noticed the way they were driving, and immediately huffed. "Take me home." Her eyes never left her window, but she could feel Shawn's eyes on her as he went back around to go into the direction of her house.

They arrived to her home moments later. Bey couldn't wait for the car to stop, and she didn't. She immediately got out out of the vehicle and began her way to her door. She unlocked it, and went inside, purposely slamming the door shut.

Shawn simply shook his head as he soon arrived inside of the home after her. Her stance was strong, letting him know that this wasn't going to be a small little debate. He closed the door behind him, examining her for a moment. He was lost on who was supposed to speak first, but when her mouth opened first, he knew he should've gone first.

"How dare you, Shawn?! You wait until we get in front of your friends to basically not agree that we weren't on the same page when I was under the impression that we were?!"

Shawn let out a deep breath. "I didn't say we weren't on the same page."

"Oh, forgive me, you're correct. You didn't say shit! Nothing! All you could say was that we should end dinner. Not telling them that it wasn't their business. Not backing me the hell up! No. Like always, I had to fight for my damn self!"

"What do you expect Beyoncé?! What do you expect a man with a child to say to his girlfriend that would rather adopt than to have a child on her own?!"

"When we first met, I told you my plans. I tell everybody, dammit! You knew when you met me. Was shit supposed to change because you had a baby?! My life doesn't revolve around what the fuck you do if you you haven't noticed. Whether you're here or not, I'm getting a baby!"

Shawn looked at her for a moment. "So it's like that?"

"It's always been like that, Shawn. My life is much more than a damn relationship. I can't compromise on something like that. That's like me telling you to choose between me and your daughter. Why would I do that?"
