"I can't believe your not going to the same college as me, we've been dreaming of going to UCLA together for years." I reminded my boyfriend, Max, for the third time in a row since he took me out to this picnic.

Max and I have been dating since freshman year of high school, we started dating towards the end of the year. In my opinion, we are completely in love and everyone at our school knew it too. Max and I have been friends since we were in diapers, our moms knew each other from High School and somehow ended up in the same place. Since they found each other, they've been inseparable and were quickly best friends, and planned to have their babies at the same time, which they did. So not only are Max and I dating, we share the same date of birth. It's not so weird when you don't think about it much.

"I know, but you know I want to be a lawyer and I got a letter from Harvard! Harvard, can you believe it, they want me to come to their school on a scholarship. It's the whole ride." He said grinning from ear to ear. This has been his dream since for ever, taking time from his childhood to read law books and get himself acquainted with the law and how the government function. He did all this while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA and participating in his country wide soccer league.

I sighed and sat up, picking a grape of its stem and biting into it. "I know and I'm happy for you babe, but what about all our plans?"

He raised his arm and ran his fingers through his curly hair, his perfect hazel eyes staring at me. "Okay, I know we made tons of plans but is this the best time for this?" He asked.

"What do you mean?"

"For us," He explained, looking me in the eyes as he said this. "Look, Kadence, we're going off to different colleges in different states. From UCLA to Harvard, that's a lot of miles, do you really think a relationship is the best thing to be in right now?"

I stared at him, thinking my ears were feeding my fake words. I couldn't believe that he was breaking up with me, right before we had to go off to college. After three years - about to go on to four - being together he's now breaking up with me because of distance? No, this couldn't truly be happening, I must be delusional or something because this is just impossible.

The look on my face must've told him my thoughts because he quickly jumped to defend himself. "Studies show that seventy percent of long distance relationships fail badly. I'm just trying to insure that we don't end on a bad note; Kadence, we've been together for three years don't you think a small college fling would be good for us? It'll make us stronger-studies show that-" I cut him off.

"Studies, that's all you ever talk about are studies. Yeah. I'm not new to this fling your talking about because my parents had the same exact fling two years ago! Fling, Maxwell, is just a fancy word for breakup. I can't believe after all we've been through together; that you'd hurt me like this."

He looked at me, his eyes sad and filled with pain. "I'm not trying to hurt you; I was just thinking that this would save us in the long run, get acquainted with being on our own; you know just in case."

"Just in case, are you telling me that you foresee a breakup in our future?" I squeezed the cup of water I'd been drinking from, piercing it and making the remaining water pour out onto the blanket we'd been laying happily on just a few minutes ago. The best few minutes of my life - up until now anyway.

Propping himself up on his elbows, he looked at me, his eyes boring into mine just begging me to understand. "Of course not, but the studies-"

"You know what Maxwell, take your studies and shove them up your- take me home!" I shouted, stopping myself from saying something that I would regret saying later on.
