James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes was known to be the ladies' man. He was a flirt but knew how to treat a girl right. He was known to be a heartthrob in your school.

Despite the reputation, Bucky was really a nice guy. He has a golden heart like his best friend, Steve Rogers, and you admired that about him. Since Steve is usually the subject of bullying, Bucky had to be always with him to protect him. He never got tired of standing up for him. He was stronger than the other boys, after all.

When he's not around, you were obliged to protect Steve. He was your best friend too. Six years ago when your moved to Brooklyn with your family, you had to leave your friends behind. Being the new kid in town was tough. Everyone talked about you and you didn't appreciate that. Wherever you go, people would watch your every move. But then one day, someone finally walked up to you and talked to you. And it was Steve. That's how you became friends. When you hang out, a certain fellow would tag along. That was Bucky.

"Hey, Steve. You didn't tell me you have a girlfriend," said a boy whose arm was hooked around Steve's neck.

"She's not my girlfriend," Steve said. "This is Y/N, my friend."

The boy turns to you and smiles. "Ah, Y/N. I've heard about you but they never said you were beautiful," he remarked.

"Word spreads here like a wild fire, huh?" you snickered.

"Sure does, doll," the unnamed boy answered with a wink.

As the both of you stare at each other, Steve couldn't help but feel awkward. He coughs and your attention turns to the little one. "Y/N, this is Bucky, by the way," he said, gesturing at the boy.

"James Buchanan Barnes," Bucky stated. "My friends call me Bucky."

"So does that mean we're friends?" you asked, a smirk present on your lips.

"Of course. But I'd like if we become more than friends," he answered.

Both of them became your friend. The two boys would knock on your door and ask for you to hang out with them. Six years passed and here you were in the same school, the best of friends as you could ever be. But something changed.

You are in love with Bucky.

You keep it well hidden that no one seems to notice.

Not even James Barnes himself.

For every girl Bucky dated, it pierced your heart. You wished he would show up in your front porch. You wished he would compliment how you look on their date with a kiss on your knuckles. You wished he would take you out dancing until you both realize it was already late. You wished he would kiss you goodbye. You wished you would be dancing in your bedroom reminiscing your date.

You wish to be that girl.

But alas, you could only dream. As if he'd like his best friend, you thought.

You let out a sigh. You grab your textbook from the table and slung your bag. You have school today and you were going to see your best friends. You hoped you didn't.

When you arrived at your school, you could hear everyone talking about the prom. Oh yeah. We have prom. I forgot about that, you pondered. Knowing James Barnes, he's probably by his locker surrounded by girls asking him to be their date. Steve's probably standing by your locker waiting for you since he felt awkward being around those girls.

As expected, the scene you imagined in your mind came true as if it was déja vu. You nod at Steve as you walk towards your locker.

"Everyone's excited for prom, huh?"

Steve sighs. "I'm not."

"You and me both," you remarked, opening your locker.

Bucky, who was amused at the amount of girls asking him out, noticed his best friends. He looks at the girls and says, "Excuse me, ladies" before he makes his way to your locker.

He puts an arm around Steve's neck and smirks at you. "Hey."

You take out your Algebra book from your locker and closed it. "Hey."

"You excited?"

You stare at him. "For what?"

"Prom, Y/N/N! It's gonna be on Friday night. Aren't you excited?" he grinned.

"Oh, prom," you said blankly. "That. I don't think I'm going."

Bucky's grin drops upon hearing those words. "W-What? Why not?"

You shrug. "Just not into it. Besides, I've got no date. I'll probably just hang out with Steve."

"Then I'm not going too," he said.

"What? You've got a bunch of dates. You have no reason not to attend prom," you scoffed.

"Maybe I have two," he replied.

"Let's hear it then," you said, crossing your arms.

"One, my best friends won't be coming along so that's no fun," he stated. "Two, I have no date."

"You have a lot, Barnes," you replied.

"Not the one I want to ask for prom. Apparently, she's not going."

"Oh really? That's too bad," you shrugged.

Bucky sighs. "Yeah. I was hoping she'd come. I've always wanted to take her dancing but it looks like my charm isn't even working on her."

"Well, why don't you ask her? Maybe she'll change her mind," you said.

"Okay then. I will." Bucky clears his throat and looks straight into your eyes. "Y/N, will you be my prom date?"

The girls standing by Bucky's locker turned their heads towards their direction with a gasp. "What!" Your eyes widen. You didn't expect this to happen. You never imagined this, not in a million years.

"Um, yes. Of course," you stuttered.

Bucky, upon hearing your answer, had the biggest grin plastered on his face. He takes you by the waist and spun you around, laughing. "Oh, doll. You've made me so happy. You have no idea how long I've been waiting for this day," he sighed.

You laugh. "I think I do. I mean, I'm just waiting for you to make your first move, Buck."

"I thought you didn't like me."

"I do. I'm just pretty good at hiding it," you replied.

"You did a very good job at it, doll. And now, here comes your award," he cooed. Bucky dips you down, an arm wrapped around your waist. He leans down and gives you a long sweet kiss. You and him had been waiting for this moment to come and now that it did, it was the greatest moment of your lives yet.

"You've made me crazy, Y/N/N. God knows how many nights I've been sleepless just thinking you might never love me back," he sighed.

"But here I am, your arm wrapped around my waist, breathless from our shared kiss," you stated. "I think that's enough proof that I love you."
