Chapter 20

When I wake I'm facing Michael and he has his arms wrapped around me. I kiss his nose and his eyes flutter open. "Goodmorning Beautiful" he says in his sleepy voice. "Goodmorning"
"What time is it?"
"9:50"
"Shit! I gotta go"

He hops up and begins getting dressed frantically. "What is wrong with you? Where do you have to be?" I ask him.
"I have band rehearsal in 10 minutes. Want to come?"
"I'd love to."
"Get dressed."

We get into Lukes garage and everyone says hi to me except, Ashton. As usual.

After Ashton didn't say hi Michael shot him a look. I look over to Ash, who has a straight face. I try to ignore it and so does everyone else. So they start to rehearse.

I hum along to the words of the song. They're so good I don't get how they aren't famous by now.

"I need a break, my voice hurts" Michael says and they all agree except Ashton. They all leave except Ashton again. We sit quiet for a moment.

"Why do you make it awkward between us? It's been a month since me and Michael have been dating and you still haven't said more than 2 words to me at a time." I ask Ashton.
"It's just weird to think my serious ex is with one of my best friends" he rolls his eyes.
"We still should at least try to make it normal. We should just tell him."
"No. Then he would get all jealous and I would get the brunt of it."
"I feel like I'm just hiding this big thing from him. I'm telling him. Tonight."

He starts to reply but the other boys walk in. Michael gives us both an odd look but shakes it off.

"So come on guys, we gotta practice for our gig this Saturday." Ashton says grabbing his drum sticks. They continue playing.

It's about 4:40 now and we were all sitting on Lukes couch watching some weird shows about random shit. My head rests on Michaels chest, he grabs my hand and kisses it. I reach my arms around his neck and whisper in his ear "I need to talk to you, can we leave?" He nods his head and stands up as he pulls me up with him. "Okay guys we're gonna head out."

They all respond with their goodbyes and we leave. We get in his car and he starts to drive off.

"What'd you need to talk about?" He says seeming kind of nervous.
" I just wanted to tell you something that I feel you should know. Well a little while before I dated you, me and Ashton actually were in a relationship. A pretty serious one."

I turn to look at his reaction but he mostly keeps a straight face with his eyes on the road. "Oh."
"We are over it and all but I just wanted you to know."
"Well thanks for telling me."

He drops me off at my house. He handled that pretty well I guess. Well at least that's out of the way.

I stand up and take my plate to the sink and so does my brother and dad. I feel my butt buzz and realize it's my phone. I pull it out and see a text message from the person I least expected.

From: Chance at 8:31pm
Hey Alanis! I'm back in Irvine to graduate here :D we should hang out!
